About the "Bereaved Parents' Rights Act"

Current research suggests that anywhere between 10 to 30 percent of pregnancies tragically end in miscarriage or stillbirth. Families who experience this unimaginable heartbreak deserve as much love and support as possible.

Unfortunately, it is often difficult or even impossible for families in certain states to retrieve their child’s body from the hospital after a natural loss. This difficulty creates additional pain and trauma for many families, especially those who wish to bury, cremate, or hold a funeral for their baby.

But it doesn't have to be that way.

Students for Life Action's federal "Bereaved Parents’ Rights Act" gives grieving parents in EVERY state a clear right to their child’s remains after a miscarriage or stillbirth. This commonsense legislation would set a national standard of dignity and compassion by ensuring that no family is denied the chance to mourn their child in a meaningful way — the same way any deceased loved one is honored. This bill will be introduced in both the House and Senate by Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL) and Sen. Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-KS) who are strong advocates for life and families.

When you watch the livestream of our federal briefing on Wednesday, May 13, you'll hear from a panel of experts about the details of our legislation and the importance of protecting parents' rights at a national level.
