Pro-life voters and activists made it a clear point in the last few weeks that the Trump Administration needs to take direct action against Chemical Abortion Pills, instead of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). greenlighting a generic one to market. Now, the dissent is not only coming from pro-life spaces, but even amongst pro-abortion voters.
In the latest polling done by a highly favored Trump friendly pollster, McLaughlin and Associates, and published in an exclusive by The Federalist, it shows clearly that broad swaths of Americans have grave concerns about these Chemical Abortion Pills on the shelves. According to the sample group, 59% had a “favorable” view of Planned Parenthood, yet still 71% called for more regulations of such a pill. The polling went on to show that 3 out of 5 people thought that Chemical Abortion Pills are way more dangerous than advertised, and 6 in 10 people believed Mifepristone was unsafe. This is a wakeup call to the FDA and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), but it would not be the first one.
In September of last year, our research arm of the Pro-Life Generation (PLG), The Demetree Institute, partnered with cutting edge polling from YouGov. They found that registered voters, roughly at a margin of 7 in 10, wanted stricter health and safety standards around Mifepristone. 64% wanted to reduce availability of Chemical Abortion Pills to a prescription given in person by a professional. Polling also showed a lion’s share of concern around an abuser’s ability to get the Chemical Abortion Pill, as well as the waste impacts on the Environment, namely, in drinking water.
The polling, from our own and McLaughlin’s efforts, clearly show that Americans—pro-life and pro-choice alike—have grave concerns about Chemical Abortion Pills and their severe effects on women and the preborn. This shows that it is not controversial or ideological to demand that Chemical Abortion Pills are restricted, regulated, and pulled. Any failure to do so is simply out of step with most Americans and the voting public. We implore the FDA, HHS, and others in the Trump Administration to listen to the polling and their voters.
