Students for Life Action Launches State-Wide Effort to Counter the Deceptively Named Virginia Right to Reproductive Freedom Amendment, a Radical Expansion of Abortion Policy
MEDIA ADVISORY: Join a Protect Life Virginia Webinar WEDNESDAY to Learn More about Efforts to Stop the Proposed Ballot Initiative in Virginia through the 2025 State Legislative Elections.
“It should sicken people to know that in Virginia – where abortions can take place at up to 7 months of pregnancy – the abortion radicals want more. The Pro-Life Generation will fight to protect viable babies vulnerable to death by abortion as well as their mothers. And as a Virginia-based, national organization, we will fight to prevent our home in the Old Dominion from becoming the late-term abortion destination on the east coast,” said Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins.

RICHMOND, VA (08-13-2025) – This month, Students for Life Action (SFLAction) launched our Protect Life Virginia campaign to head off a new ballot initiative designed to create an even more radical abortion policy in Virginia, where abortion deaths on even viable babies are permitted up to 7 months pregnancy. To discuss the life and death stakes, SFLAction and The Family Foundation of Virginia will host a webinar, Protect Life Virginia, on Wednesday, August 13th at 7:00 PM ET. This special webinar comes after 38 dedicated volunteers from SFLAction knocked on nearly 1,000 doors throughout Virginia to end abortion extremism last week. The goal is to see at least two state seats change hands so that Life can be protected in Law when the session starts again.

“It’s horrifying to consider the fact that babies born at 22 to 23 weeks can survive, and that by 7 months (27 weeks +), the survival rate is up to 80%. Not only does the language of this measure cut parents, guardians, and legal support away from a young girl, it allows children who can live outside the womb to be thrown away,” said Hawkins. “The willingness to push for abortion past 7 months of pregnancy shows that it’s not abortion alone that the abortion lobby wants. It’s an end to any humane treatment of life in the womb and any commonsense protections for mothers vulnerable to abortion pressure.”
TUNE IN WEDNESDAY: The event will equip pro-life advocates to counter the radical abortion amendment that threatens to enshrine abortion through all nine months into Virginia’s constitution.
As noted at Protect Life Virginia: “A proposed amendment to the Virginia State Constitution, the Virginia Right to Reproductive Freedom Amendment, would legalize abortion through all nine months of pregnancy and remove nearly every safeguard for women — including parental consent, informed consent, and health regulations for abortion vendors. Plus, it would end the requirement that babies born alive during abortions receive life-sustaining medical care.”
The webinar will break down the dangers of the atrocious Virginia Right to Reproductive Freedom Amendment, which would:
· Legalize abortion until birth
· Eliminate parental consent
· Nullify informed consent, ultrasound requirements, and health & safety regulations
· Allow for sterilizing, wrong sex “treatments”
Fighting against a callous attitude toward viable babies in the womb has been a long-term struggle for the Pro-Life Generation, which has been engaging the Youth Vote to confront radical abortion extremism. This voter engagement is crucial. From a Tufts’ Center for Information & Research on Civic Learning and Engagement(CIRCLE) estimate of youth voter turnout based on aggregated voter files, close to half of young people (47%) ages 18-29 cast a ballot in the 2024 presidential election – and the pro-life candidate won.
In Virginia, abortion extremism has been on full display. Back in 2019, Delegate Kathy Tran of Virginia pushed for a billthat would allow abortion “even when a woman is dilating.” That same year, former Governor Ralph Northam described a scenario in which a baby would be “kept comfortable” while the mother and doctor decided whether to let him or her die.
“These radical politicians are disconnected from the public—they’re pushing abortion extremism that voters reject,” said Hawkins.
