Maine Makes History as First State in the Nation to Vote on the Students for Life Action’s ‘Clean Water for All Life Act’ in the State House & Senate
“While today the ‘Clean Water for All Life Act’ did not prevail, we will be back, because without intervention, we are drinking other people’s abortions,” said Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins.

AUGUSTA, ME (06-11-2025) – In a first for Students for Life Action’s (SFLAction) nationwide campaign to address the many dangers of Chemical Abortion Pills, a Clean Water for All Life measure received a state House and state Senate floor vote in Maine, the first such votes in the nation, though a number of states have advanced similar legislation. Maine State Rep. Reagan Paul introduced Maine’s Clean Water for All Life Act, LD 887, championing the effort that advanced from the Maine Joint Standing Committee on Judiciary, to this week’s vote. Though the measure lost — 77 to 66 in Maine’s House and 21 to 12 in the state Senate — clearly a number of legislators saw the value in protecting citizens from abortion water pollution.
“Even if you support abortion, that’s not an argument for drinking other people’s abortions, as chemically tainted blood, placenta tissue, and human remains are flushed into our drinking water,” noted SFLAction President Kristan Hawkins. “This vote allows us to know who in Maine is more loyal to the abortion lobby than to public safety. No constitutional right exists to allow for abortion water pollution, and no responsible legislator should walk away from the deadly consequences of No Test, Online Distribution of Chemical Abortion Pills, exposing women to injury, infertility, and death, while abusers are empowered and the abortion industry cuts costs as pathological medical waste goes into our drinking water. Maine’s governor may be okay with the abortion lobby’s license to hurt women, the preborn, and those who want clean water. But we will be back to protect life in law and in service.”
SFLAction Vice President of Media & Policy Kristi Hamrick testified in person in favor of the bill, noting that in Maine, 7 in 10 abortions are committed with Chemical Abortion Pills.
Hamrick noted in her testimony: “The EPA says that the generator of medical waste – the professional who starts a chain of events leading to the pathological medical waste — is responsible for its disposal. Those selling abortion pills have every reason to believe that such remains in waterways will be the result. The question is, should the people of Maine drink that?”
Rep. Paul’s bill includes common-sense health and safety standards for women seeking abortions. If passed, this legislation will require safety standards, including, but not limited to, a healthcare provider examining patients, being present during the chemical abortion, and providing a medical waste bag to ensure proper disposal of the aborted child and pregnancy tissue.

Gen Z and Gen Y registered voters strongly support this type of legislation, as reported in Students for Life of America (SFLA) and the Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement YouGov/SurveyUSA poll released this January, where we note that by margins of 9 in 10 or more, they embrace environmental protections and health & safety standards for the deadly pills.
