“Our water shouldn’t be polluted with chemically tainted blood, placenta tissue, and human remains, as the broken bodies of preborn infants go into toilets,” said Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins. “Students for Life Action calls on Maine legislators to stop Chemical Abortion Pill pollution when it comes up for a vote. Maine’s introduction of the ‘Clean Water For All Life Act’ represents cutting-edge innovation in pro-life policy, aimed at keeping the forever chemicals from Chemical Abortion Pill pollution out of our waterways. Without intervention, we are drinking other people’s abortions.”

AUGUSTA, ME (04-02-2025) – As a part of Students for Life Action’s (SFLAction) nationwide legislative effort to ensure clean drinking water, free of Chemical Abortion Pill pollution, State Rep. Reagan Paul introduced Maine’s “Clean Water For All Life Act,” LD 887. Following a vote in the Maine Joint Standing Committee on Judiciary, the Committee report is slated for a Roll Call vote on the Maine House & Senate floor. SFLAction President Kristan Hawkins noted that when the Committee Report comes for a floor vote, it will be a history making event as the innovative report will get a Roll Call vote. “Even if you support abortion, that’s not an argument for drinking other people’s abortions, as chemically tainted blood, placenta tissue, and human remains are flushed into our drinking water,” noted Hawkins. “Maine is a leader in the discussion of the harms of abortion water pollution.”
SFLAction Vice President of Media & Policy Kristi Hamrick testified last week in person in favor of the bill, noting that in Maine, 7 in 10 abortions are committed with Chemical Abortion Pills.

Hamrick noted in her testimony: “Other nations with actual abortion reporting laws say that even more abortions are committed with deadly Chemical Abortion Pills. For example, Finland recently said it was 99%. Using the Guttmacher Institute’s math, that means the medical waste of more than 653,000 abortions went into America’s drinking water in 2023, when the most recent data was available. Chemically tainted blood and placenta tissue, along with the human remains, flowing into water systems, are a predictable consequence of these pills but can be addressed safely. The EPA says that the generator of medical waste – the professional who starts a chain of events leading to the pathological medical waste — is responsible for its disposal. Those selling abortion pills have every reason to believe that such remains in waterways will be the result. The question is, should the people of Maine drink that?”
Rep. Paul’s billincludes common-sense health and safety standards for women seeking abortions. If passed, this legislation will require safety standards, including, but not limited to, a healthcare provider examining patients, being present during the chemical abortion, and providing a medical waste bag to ensure proper disposal of the aborted child and pregnancy tissue.
