Charlotte Swannack, one of the National Leaders Collective’s (NLC) top leaders, is a SFLAction State Captain and homeschool student in North Carolina. Learn more about Swannack’s activism, in her own words, below.

Students for Life helped me to be a leader in North Carolina politics during a key election season.

Standing outside A Woman’s Choice in Raleigh, North Carolina, I watched countless young women walk into the abortion facility to end the lives of their children. As they walked out a few hours later, I saw tears streaming down their faces, and the brokenness of these women moved me. And in that moment, I knew I needed to become a more active member of the pro-life community.

I am a junior in high school and president of Our Lady of Guadalupe Students for Life. I became a Students for Life Action State Captain because I wanted to have an active role in protecting women and the preborn, and I thought the best way I could make an impact was by influencing North Carolina’s legislature.

As a State Action Captain, my group and I planned, led, and participated in many forms of political activism to promote a pro-life culture in North Carolina. During the Fall Semester, I spoke on NORTH CAROLINA State’s Campus about voting pro-life and how college students could be active in pro-life lawmakers being elected to office in November. Through this speaking event, I encouraged students to be involved during the election season, with some attending a Students for Life door-knocking deployment and others tabling with North Carolina Right to Life at the State Fair.

In addition, my group polled at my local election site, handing out pro-life ballot cards to over 200 voters, ensuring that everyone who went to vote was educated on who upholds our pro-life values. In the spring of this school year, I attended North Carolina’s lobby day. With Students for Life’s guidance, I was able to schedule meetings with pro-life champions in North Carolina, forming relationships with legislators who will support us in abolishing abortion in our state.

I also spoke at the North Carolina Pro-Life March, for which I got very positive feedback from the audience as well as invites to speak at other events coming up, including at Camp Joshua this summer. Finally, my group held a Defund Planned Parenthood Life Chain, along with 100 others across the country, outside the Planned Parenthood in Chapel Hill.

I have grown tremendously as a leader because of my involvement in the National Leaders Collective. The biggest challenge that I faced as a leader this year was gaining the confidence to be a strong voice for Life in politics. Students for Life helped me to overcome this by meeting with me to answer questions that I had, providing me with materials to complete my activism, and encouraging me in everything that I took on. Because of my involvement this year with NLC, I plan to continue fighting for pro-life laws to be passed in the State of North Carolina by serving as a Students for Life Action Captain during the 2025-2026 school year. I also will be working with the Diocese of Raleigh this summer as their pro-life intern.
