Planned Parenthood, Stay Away from Our Children

Just days after a Nevada law requiring that parents be notified if their daughter seeks an abortion was enacted, Planned Parenthood predictably sued the state. While Senate Bill 510 (SB510) aims to empower parents and protect minors from making irreversible decisions in silence, Planned Parenthood immediately fought back — attempting to assert dominance over a parent’s right to know when their underage child is seeking a life-altering procedure.

After 40 years of sitting dormant and previously being blocked by Roe v. Wade — SB510 has finally taken effect. For decades, a 15-year-old girl could obtain an abortion without her parents’ knowledge, left to endure the psychological and emotional effects in secrecy-without guidance or support. But thanks to the Dobbs v. Jackson ruling and the revived law, Nevada parents are now required to be informed if their underage daughter undergoes this permanent, life-altering procedure — unless a judge deems notification unsafe. At last proactive parents are restored with a basic human right: being informed when their child is in crisis.

To most Americans, this is a commonsense protection. Yet Planned Parenthood stoked fear-calling the process to obtain parental acknowledgment “opaque and daunting.”  Let me be clear: no organization — no matter how powerful it is, should ever harbor more rights over a child’s life than their own parents.

And then, just as quickly as they launched their legal ambush, Planned Parenthood dropped the lawsuit.

Why the sudden retreat?

Maybe because they knew the truth: their attack on parental rights was indefensible. SB510 doesn’t eliminate abortion access — it simply ensures parents are informed.

It is most disheartening to see time and time again the lengths Planned Parenthood will go to spread disinformation.  While Planned Parenthood claims to care about protecting choice, SB510 doesn’t ban abortions. It only aims to empower parents when their child is facing a traumatic and irreversible decision. It doesn’t create any hurdles to terminating an unborn life. It only brings parents into conversation for when their child is in tragedy.

Ultimately, Planned Parenthood’s opposition describes a separate mission: they’re not trying to uplift young girls… they are trying to isolate them.

We are sending a direct message to Planned Parenthood: stay in your lane. Do not get between a child and her family — and never strip power away from parents.
