Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) introduced a bill this month that would limit the use and distributions of Chemical Abortion Pills, following the release of a landmark study by the Ethics and Public Policy Center (EPPC) that found almost 11% of women who take the abortion pill mifepristone suffer serious adverse effects.

Why it matters: Students for Life Action (SFLAction) strongly supports this bill, which has the potential to curtail the dangerous and often illegal trafficking of Chemical Abortion Pills throughout the U.S. Chemical abortions now account for 63% of all abortions, according to the Guttmacher Institute, although the lack of a National Abortion Reporting Law makes these figures uncertain. Any bill to limit the use of these pills will protect not only preborn babies but also women.

The details: The bill is entitled The Restoring Safeguards for Dangerous Abortion Drugs Act, and it would require the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to enact safeguards on the drug, prohibit foreign manufacturers from importing mifepristone, and give women the right to sue telehealth abortionists or pharmacies for damages, should they suffer adverse health effects from the killer pills.

What they’re saying: Hawley told Fox News Digital, “”The data shows 1 in 10 women who take mifepristone experience adverse health effects, like going to the ER or suffering from sepsis. The FDA needs to act to protect women now.”

Background: The findings of the EPPC reinforce what Students for Life Action (SFLAction) has been saying for some time: Chemical Abortion Pills are not safe—despite what the FDA has previously claimed.
