“Keeping Chemical Abortion Pill trafficking out of West Virginia will protect the health and safety of West Virginian mothers, children, and their families. Speaker Roger Hanshaw and Majority Leader Pat McGeehan must act now to save babies’ lives, as well as protect young women from injury, infertility, and death that can result from out-of-state Chemical Abortion Pill trafficking,” said Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins. “Students for Life Action salutes the brave leadership of both Delegate Chris Anders & Sen. Patricia Rucker. State leadership needs to follow their example and pass HB 2461 and SB 85 this session.”

CHARLESTON, WV (04-02-25)- Students for Life Action (SFLAction) President Kristan Hawkins celebrated the passage of SB 85, the Chemical Abortion Pill Trafficking Prevention Act, sponsored by Sen. Patricia Rucker in the West Virginia Senate. The action moves to the State House for consideration. Hawkins noted: “What happens next is critical. Speaker Roger Hanshaw and House Majority Leader Pat McGeehan have massive power over whether this bill gets a vote in the State House. The lives of preborn babies depend on whether those in leadership stand up to the abortion lobby and bring this bill to the West Virginia House floor for a vote. Although they refused to allow the House version of this bill to be taken up in committee, they now have a chance for redemption.”
Hawkins noted that the next steps include moving this bill to a hearing and a vote to save the lives of preborn babies or, otherwise, they can kill the bill and leave those babies at the mercy of the abortion industry’s new obsession – Chemical Abortion Pills.

Hawkins testified in favor of West Virginia’s Chemical Abortion Pill Trafficking Prevention Act, urging the state Senate Judiciary Committee to pass SB 85, which they ultimately did. Both Sen. Rucker and Delegate Chris Anders have been fearlessly fighting on the front lines in the West Virgina House and Senate to get their respective Chemical Abortion Pill Trafficking Prevention Acts passed and signed into law.
SOME BACKSTORY: A native of West Virginia, Hawkins learned from sources in West Virginia’s State Capitol that Speaker Henshaw was refusing to move forward any pro-life bills in 2025. In response, SFLAction quickly mobilized in March by knocking on doors in the Speaker’s district and surrounding areas, as well as educating residents on problems with getting pro-life legislation on the move.
“It’s no surprise that Chemical Abortion Pill traffickers are willing to risk women’s lives and fertility in order to make a quick sale with a concoction designed to end life in the womb. When death is your business, concern for others is hardly a priority,” said Hawkins.
