The Pro-Life Generation brought the heat to the Texas State Capitol to lobby in support of SB 2880, the Women and Child Protection Act on May 28th. Students for Life Action (SFLAction) met with lawmakers to discuss the harms of Chemical Abortion Pills and how this legislation would prohibit Online, No Test Chemical Abortion Pill traffickers from distributing these dangerous pills.

The bill would also enable civil action against distributors of these drugs, delivering justice while protecting mothers and their preborn children.

Students for Life of America’s (SFLA) Texas Regional Coordinator, Faith Elwonger, the SFLA group at the University of Texas at San Antonio, and Pro-Live Mavericks from the University of Texas at Arlington joined SFLAction at the Texas State Capitol in Austin to raise legislative awareness about the Women and Child Protection Act

Our student activists met with several legislative offices, including those of Reps. Will Metcalf, Steve Troxler, Jeff Leach, and Sen. Bryan Hughes.

“We shared the dangers that come with Chemical Abortion Pills and how those dangers multiply into even scarier territory when there is no physician oversight, leading to women not getting adequate treatment if they end up in the ER, or abusers using these pills to further harm victims,” Elwonger said.

Elwonger also shared that the sponsor and co-sponsor offices they met with “were so encouraged to see Texas students there who also got to share their experiences of what it’s like being pro-life on campus.”

The same energy students brought to the Capitol was also seen when SFLAction’s Kristi Hamrick testified in favor of the companion bill in the Texas House of Representatives, HB 5510, last month.

“Chemical Abortion Pills expose women to injury, infertility, and death. The reckless model empowers abusers, who can give the deadly pills without women’s knowledge or consent,” she stated in the House State Affairs Committee on April 25th.

SFLAction’s message is clear: The Pro-Life Generation won’t stand down while Chemical Abortion Pill traffickers exploit vulnerable women. Texas must lead by passing SB 2880 because women and preborn babies deserve better than Chemical Abortion Pills.
