OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (05-14-2025) Students for Life Action (SFLAction) will join pro-life lawmakers for a news conference at 1PM CT Monday, May 19th, at the Oklahoma State Capitol’s South Plaza to highlight the ongoing push behind HB 1168, to end the trafficking of dangerous Chemical Abortion Pills into the state. As part of the event, SFLAction will feature a Cemetery of the Innocents display, representing preborn children lost to Chemical Abortion Pill trafficking. From July 2023-June 2024, there were approximately 2,360 abortions in Oklahoma via telehealth according to the Kaiser Family Foundation.
This Anti-Chemical Abortion Pill bill has been cosponsored by Representative Jim Olsen & Senator Kendall Sacchieri, and championed by Representative Denise Crosswhite Hader & Senator David Bullard.
SFLAction President Kristan Hawkins said, “Oklahomans deserve better than a government that turns a blind eye to the abortion industry’s reckless disregard for women’s and preborn babies’ lives & safety. And all Oklahomans deserve drinking water, free from abortion water pollution.”
The Anti-Chemical Abortion Pill Trafficking Bill has already passed the Oklahoma House of Representatives, securing a decisive 77–19 vote, followed by a 7-3 vote in the Senate Health and Human Services Committee. This signals the powerful momentum behind efforts to end the trafficking of dangerous Chemical Abortion Pills and protect women and preborn babies across Oklahoma. Now it’s up to the Senate to carry it across the goal line.
Last month, Hawkins sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Senator Julie Daniels and Senate President Lonnie Paxton urging them to “stop online predatory Chemical Abortion Pill traffickers from reaching into Oklahoma to hurt women and kill preborn babies.”
The letter reads as follows:
Dear Senate President Paxton and Senate Majority Leader Daniels,
You have a historic opportunity to stop online predatory Chemical Abortion Pill traffickers from reaching into Oklahoma to hurt women and kill preborn babies. Currently, due to a COVID decision made by the Biden-Harris Administration, out-of-state abortionists are sending deadly Chemical Abortion Pills by mail throughout your state and the rest of the nation.
To remedy this, an important piece of Oklahoma legislation – HB 1168 – has been introduced to protect mothers and their preborn children from the predatory Chemical Abortion Pill industry and its illegal trafficking of pills. This legislation is advancing again by the efforts of Oklahoma State Rep. Denise Crosswhite Hader and State Sen. David Bullard.
As you are well aware, this important piece of legislation was held up last year by then-Senate Majority Leader Greg McCortney. His unfortunate decision prompted Students for Life Action (SFLAction) to step up and inform voters of his failure to protect Life; shortly thereafter, he lost his primary. Oklahoman voters have made it clear where their priorities stand.
Oklahoma’s pro-life status is deeply threatened by the trafficking of these deadly pills into its state—along with the health and fertility of women and the lives of their preborn children. Also at risk is water safety, as chemically tainted blood, placenta tissue, and human remains are flushed into our waterways via chemical abortions.
You don’t have to be pro-life to know that women should never be vulnerable to predators or to desire clean drinking water for your family.
This time around, the responsibility of leadership is on your shoulders. Now, it’s up to you to permit a vote that so many wish to see move forward. In fact, this type of legislation ranks high with Gen Z and Gen Y registered voters, now almost half of the electorate.
This January, Students for Life’s Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement YouGov/Survey USA poll of young voters found more than 9 out of 10, issue by issue, support lifesaving, fertility-guarding, environmental legislative actions, such as stopping abusers from obtaining Chemical Abortion Pills without women’s knowledge or consent. In addition, 52% of respondents said they look favorably on a legislator who protects people and the environment from the toxic effects of abortion.
It should be noted that earning the allegiance of this generation of voters undergirds the longevity and success of the Republican Party. These young voters are increasingly siding against abortion and in favor of commonsense limits and protections.
With confidence and hope, SFLAction calls on you to present this crucial, life-saving bill for a Senate vote. We, the undersigned, sincerely ask you to take up the banner of leadership entrusted to you and act in the best interests of those who have elected you and hoped in you to protect Oklahomans – born and preborn.
Sincerely,
Kristan Hawkins, President of Students for Life of America (SFLA) and Students for Life Action (SFLAction)
