MEDIA ADVISORY: 10:15 a.m. ET, Hearing on H.R.6359, Pregnant Students’ Rights Act, before the U.S. House Education & Workforce Committee. WATCH HERE.

The SFLAction-inspired effort represents another opportunity for the U.S. Congress to support pregnant students and young families.

“No mother should feel pressured to choose between her child and her education. Universities that care about helping students succeed at home as well as in life already support all of the parts of student life – education, career, and family. But many schools push abortion rather than help for young families. To rebuild a pro-life and pro-family culture, Congress must act to protect pregnant and parenting students who are working to build a better life for their families,” said Students for Life Action’s Kristan Hawkins.

Students for Life Action will score H.R. 6359: The Pregnant Students’ Rights Act, including sponsorship of the measure.

WASHINGTON D.C. (01-08-2026) – Students for Life Action (SFLAction) President Kristan Hawkins pledged the support of the Pro-Life Generation on behalf of the Pregnant Students’ Rights Act, introduced for a third time in the U.S. House by Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA). The measure is scheduled for a hearing today before the U.S. House Education & Workforce Committee and can be watched here

“If you look at the vote for the Pregnant Students’ Rights Act in the 118th Congressional vote, it should shock Americans that every single Democrat in the U.S. House voted against giving pregnant and parenting students information about the help available to them in college, and last Congress, the U.S. Senate didn’t advance the bill. But we have another chance in this session of Congress to educate students about all their choices,” said Hawkins. “A pro-abortion mindset poisons a lot of campus life, and we fight for the free speech rights of our pro-life students every day. But this bill rights a terrible wrong against those who have chosen to invest in school and family and need to know that they are not alone. Schools must not stay silent about the resources available to mothers at school.”

Because there are so few pro-life votes, SFLAction also scores sponsorship of pro-life legislation in our Pro-Life Generation Report Card. Vision & Values are graded together. This measure will be a scored vote and a scored sponsorship.

The measure passed the U.S. House in the 118th Congressional Session and remains largely unchanged. It demands that pregnant and parenting students get the information they need to accomplish all their goals for their families. The bill:

  • Requires colleges and universities to inform prospective and enrolled students on the rights and resources, including protections and accommodations, available for pregnant students while enrolled at the institution, as a condition of Title IV funding.
  • Ensures universities disseminate information regarding the rights and protections for pregnant students to carry a pregnancy to term through emails, student handbooks, at orientation, on university websites, and at student health or counseling centers.
  • Requires universities to inform students how to file a Title IX complaint with the Department of Education or with the institution if a student believes that her Title IX rights were violated.

“Too few students understand their Title IX rights, designed to protect women at school, starting in 1972. Title IX programs took a real beating during the Biden years, and we will work to see that the protections are strengthened for those who depend on it,” said Hawkins.

As we previously reported on our Title IX work on campuses: “Ruth Asmarzadeh, suffered from Title IX violations after unexpectedly finding herself pregnant as a college student in Colorado. Due to the timing of her child’s birth, Ruth was physically unable to take her final exams. Her school refused to arrange another time for her to take the tests, resulting in her professors failing her and ultimately losing her financial aid. (Fortunately, Students for Life of America stepped in to help her through our Standing With You initiative.)”
