FREDERICKSBURG, VA (09-17-2025) – Students for Life of America (SFLA) and Students for Life Action (SFLAction), in solemn remembrance of the legacy of Charlie Kirk, call for a national commitment to peaceful advocacy following his tragic loss. SFLA President Kristan Hawkins announced that at the federal and state levels, the Pro-Life Generation would be working to honor Kirk, a passionate leader and champion for Life and Truth, through the commemoration of his birthday, October 14th, as a national holiday. Hawkins said, “The Charlie Kirk Free Speech Day Act would establish a national reminder that our First Amendment freedom of speech and religion are foundational to our existence as a nation. My friend Charlie inspired this generation, and we hope he will do the same for generations to come.”
SFLAction is working with a number of states to advance a Charlie Kirk Free Speech Day and a similar effort is taking place federally. Bills are already moving in North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, and West Virginia.

This day will serve not only as a tribute to Charlie’s life and work, but as a rallying point for all who believe in the values he boldly embodied: Life, Truth, Faith, and Family. This holiday would also be a call for people to seek out peaceful, productive dialogue with those of differing beliefs.

We fully support a holiday that encompasses not just what America stands for, but what Charlie fought so hard to protect: freedom.”
Many at Students for Life had the privilege of collaborating with Charlie and his remarkable team at Turning Point USA (TPUSA), standing shoulder to shoulder in pursuit of justice, dignity, and the rights of preborn children. Charlie’s steadfast commitment to free speech and honest debate inspired countless Americans, especially the rising generation.
