Violence Begets Violence

No one is truly safe in a pro-abortion culture

Something I’ve been extremely aware of lately is this: Our nation can’t kill thousands of children a day, day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year, decade after decade… with no serious effects.

The effects, in fact, are legion.

First and foremost, tens of millions of children have been killed under our legal abortion regime. It’s impossible for our brains to visualize that large a number of victims.

To put it into perspective, if we offered a minute of silence for each child killed in abortion in the United States, we’d be silent for well over a hundred years.

Apart from the human cost of lives lost, there is the societal toll. Think about it. In what other scenario could you kill thousands and thousands of innocent people in a week nonstop for decades, and that not have an impact on the individuals left behind?

For every child killed in abortion, there are a mother and father and two sets of grandparents. Then there are usually siblings. Aunts. Uncles. Cousins. Virtually everyone has a close connection to a child killed in abortion violence.

Over time, that violence has a compounding, cumulative effect on the psyche of a culture. And we are absolutely seeing those effects in action today.

First I want to go over some numbers.

A Pew study out this month reported that those who reject faith are those most likely to reject the value of infants in the womb. To be specific, Atheists and Agnostics identify as Democrats by a massive margin. 84-13% for Atheists and 78-12% for Agnostics.

Why is this significant? Because the Democrats have a huge problem: They don’t just defend violence; they celebrate violence. They condone violence inside the womb and – increasingly – violence outside the womb.

And it’s my belief that this is a byproduct of a culture that abides and champions killing children in abortion violence. Let’s look at a few examples.

Luigi Mangione: You definitely will remember the senseless shooting of Brian Thompson, the CEO of United Healthcare, last December. Luigi Mangione is the suspect in that shooting. In a sane society, he’d be viewed as a criminal and loser.

Instead, there is a shocking number of Americans who feel what Mangione did was justified.

Polling by Emerson College revealed that, among young voters ages 18-29:

41% found the killer’s actions acceptable… About 24% found them “somewhat acceptable” and 17% “completely acceptable.

Similarly, many Americans on the Left now admit they think it would be justified to kill their political opponents.

A report from the website Modernity discusses a new poll that found this to be true:

A shocking poll has discovered that a majority of Americans identifying as left of center politically believe that murdering President Trump would be justified.

The survey was conducted by the Network Contagion Research Institute, which describes itself as “a neutral and independent organization whose mission is to identify and forecast cyber-social threats and report on them in a timely fashion.”

A total of 55 percent of leftists responding to the poll said that the use of deadly violence against their political enemies is acceptable, with 48 percent also saying it would be ok to kill Elon Musk.

Overall, from a survey of 1,300 Americans, 38 percent of respondents said it would be at least “somewhat justified” to murder President Trump, while 31 percent said the same about Elon Musk.

Additionally, too many young Americans sympathize with Hamas and have promoted or participated in antisemitism on college campuses following the October 7, 2023 massacre by Hamas against the Israeli people.

On that day, Hamas slaughtered 1,200 innocent people, including women and children.

A survey by the higher ed online magazine Intelligent found that among college students who say they had pro-Palestinian protests on their campus:

  • 65% of students are very supportive (36%) or somewhat supportive (29%) of the protests happening on college campuses
  • More than one-third of protest supporters are in favor of the use of violence and hate speech
  • More than half of protest supporters say they sympathize with Hamas

As someone who spends a lot of my time on college campuses across the country, I’ve had a front-row seat to the evolution of violence on campus.

I’ve been visiting college campuses for well over a decade and I can tell you that when I started, I absolutely did not encounter students who openly admitted that they supported violence toward people they disagreed with.

If I encountered an unhinged student promoting violence, it was a one-off, and other students took pains to distance themselves from the crazy person.

These days, it’s different. I can’t visit a Left-leaning college campus without spending thousands of dollars preparing for the possibilities of being accosted by antifa or being violently attacked or threatened.

We have to hire a team of bodyguards just to be safe on campus.

It’s a strange world when we need to fundraise for bomb dogs and extra security… I wish this wasn’t what our donors had to fund in order to get the message of LIFE onto college campuses today. But it is.

This is the result of a culture that’s made a habit of devaluing humans.

Every conversation I have on campuses with students always comes down to the value of the human person. Prior to the Covid era, young people would say that they knew humans were valuable. Now, not as much.

This is the consequence of generations of American children growing up knowing that they were disposable before they exited the birth canal. A society that doesn’t know their own lives have value cannot then be expected to value the lives of their “enemies.”

And that truly is a tragedy.

If we want to end abortion, it starts with convincing young men and women that their lives matter. If they believe that, they are more likely to value the lives of their children, and everyone else around them – including their enemies.

As we continue to bask in Easter glory, we are reminded that we have a Savior who literally suffered death because we are that valuable.

I’ll end by alluding back to the original Pew poll I cited, showing that there is a significant correlation between lacking faith and supporting a pro-violence worldview. The battle between life and death, and peace and violence, really comes down to a battle between good and evil.

Violently sacrificing children to demons is nothing new to human history. We want to think we have evolved beyond that brutality, but the truth is that the further we get from God, the closer we get to violence.

Join me in praying for our culture to return to God.
