Will Democrats Swap Out Virginia’s Election Map to Swipe U.S. House Seats? The Game is On

In the home state of Students for Life Action’s (SFLAction) headquarters – Virginia — Democrats are working to rig the electoral game by making sure Republicans, independent-minded Virginians, and Virginians who care about LIFE lose their voting strength.  This comes as the Democrats in the Virginia House of Delegates this week, through a procedural resolution, push for a more gerrymandered Virginia, a process in which a political party can pick up more seats by drawing the lines between voter districts to put their people together to make a stronger voting bloc.

The Virginia Mercury puts it like this: “With just one week before Election Day, Virginia lawmakers returned to the state Capitol … for a surprise special session that swiftly turned into a partisan clash over the future of the state’s congressional map — and, potentially, its balance of political power for years to come.”

The end result could give Democrats two or three additional U.S. House seats and more power in Congress. But step one is in the state.

This idea, being executed by State House of Delegates Majority Leader Charniele Herring  was cooked up by Eric Holder, Attorney General under President Obama and Obama’s personal friend, in an effort to push back against the Trump Administration.

The New York Times explains the math:

“Virginia is one of few options Democrats have to boost their chances of engineering more House seats for themselves next year … As in California, redrawing Virginia’s congressional districts mid-decade requires altering the state’s constitution. To do that, majorities in consecutive sessions of the legislature — once this year and again after Jan. 15 when newly-elected delegates are seated — must approve the amendment. Then, it would have to pass a statewide referendum, which could go before voters early next year.

“Democrats hold 51 out of 100 seats in Virginia’s House of Delegates and have a 21-19 advantage in the State Senate. Virginia state senators do not face re-election until 2027.

“All 100 seats in Virginia’s House of Delegates are up for election Nov. 4, and Democrats are expected to increase their margin.”

Virginia is a purple state by nature, with Northern Virginia’s DC-influenced identity clashing with the South, with granola pockets like Charlottesville, and Old Money Richmond in the middle.

SFLAction was already door knocking in Virginia to swing key House of Delegate state races, and now we have even more reason to be engaged.

Three of our headquarters’ home state districts are quite competitive, the 1st, 2nd, and the fighting 7th—where The Pro-Life Generation is based.

Competition is a good thing; it makes our elected officials’ better representatives and better listeners.  In a competitive district, every vote and every voice matters.  But through this Special Session, Democrats hope to change Virginia—permanently.  Since they believe they can’t compete, they choose to cheat, by redrawing the lines to get more power.

Republicans have filed a lawsuit to stop this, but we can’t depend on the courts.

This is not the Virginia way.  Virginia is the land of Jeffersonian ideals, Washington’s courage, and Patrick Henry’s conviction for our Liberty.

As in every state of the union, voting Pro-Life First is key, and even in state races, national stakes are in play. Given the Democratic Party’s lock-step pursuit of more abortion, holding the line in Virginia is vital.
