TAKE TWO: Students for Life Action Celebrates Return of the Women & Child Protection Act in the Texas State House & Senate Special Session
“Pro-life states like Texas are under assault from a new drug cartel – Chemical Abortion Pill pushers – who deliberately violate state laws to sell a drug combination with the intent of always killing someone,” said Students for Life’s Kristan Hawkins. “The people who most love Chemical Abortion Pill trafficking are sex abusers, human traffickers, abusive partners, and the predators making money from ending lives. These pills kill preborn babies, hurt women, create abortion water pollution, and make all the wrong people happy.”
MEDIA ADVISORY: Newly re-introduced, the Women & Child Protection Act is now known as Texas Senate Bill 6 (89(1) – SB 6) and Texas House Bill (89(1) – HB 30), expected to be up for a hearing in the Senate State Affairs Committee on Monday, Aug. 11th.

AUSTIN, TX (08-11-2025) – Students for Life Action (SFLAction) President Kristan Hawkins urged the Texas House and Senate to pass the newly reintroduced version of the Women & Child Protection Act that will address Chemical Abortion Pill trafficking in the Lone Star State by allowing people harmed by the deadly drugs to go after the pill pushers. The measure stalled in the Texas House after passing in the state Senate, but got a second chance to protect LIFE when a special session was called by Gov. Greg Abbott. A process begins again with a new version — Texas Senate Bill 6 (89(1) – SB 6) and Texas House Bill (89(1) – HB 30) – expected to be discussed in a Senate committee hearing today, even as Democratic Party legislators prevent final votes by their absence.
This is good news to SFLAction and Texas Right to Life (TRTL), which called for this second chance at LIFE for the Women and Child Protection Act in the Texas special session.

In regular session, SFLAction fought for passage of the bill, activating our more than 100 Texas student groups on behalf of this innovative effort. Students, staffers, and volunteers demanded that these new, innovative protections be added to the law, despite a number of setbacks during the fight.

In a hearing in the Texas House, SFLAction Vice President of Media & Policy Kristi Hamrick testified on one of the overlooked harms of Chemical Abortion Pill pushing – the chemically tainted blood, placenta tissue, and human remains flushed into Texas’ waterways, the result of which is abortion water pollution.
She said in part: “Let me be clear: we are all drinking other people’s abortions in the wastewater.
“You don’t have to be pro-life to oppose dumping pathological medical waste into the drinking water. You don’t have to be pro-life to protect women from sex traffickers. You don’t have to be pro-life to care that progesterone blockers in our waterways may be a factor in infertility. Even Planned Parenthood has cautioned against buying Chemical Abortion Pills online … Whether it’s love of preborn babies, their mothers, or the environment, we need to stop Chemical Abortion Pill trafficers.”
