“The SFLAction-inspired ‘Women & Child Protection Act’ passed through the Texas Senate State Affairs Committee, and we pray that the third time’s the charm on the Senate floor,” said Students for Life’s Kristan Hawkins.
“We applaud the swift action to end Chemical Abortion Pill Trafficking in Texas, and we urge the passage of Senate Bill 7, ‘Lucky Number 7’ to deliver a crucial win to Preborn Texans!”

AUSTIN, TX (08-20-2025) – Students for Life Action (SFLAction) President Kristan Hawkins urged the Texas Senate to pass the newly reintroduced version of the Women & Child Protection Act that will address Chemical Abortion Pill trafficking in the Lone Star State by allowing people harmed by the deadly drugs to go after the pill pushers.
“Now that the Democrats have crawled back to Austin to do their jobs, the Republicans have a shot at cracking down on Chemical Abortion Pill traffickers directly,” said Hawkins. “Defending women and the preborn in Texas starts with getting this bill over the finish line.”
This bill allows anyone who manufactures or provides access to the pill to be sued for up to $100,000 in damages. Senate Bill 7 also empowers the Texas Attorney General to file lawsuits on behalf of the preborn. This is good news to SFLAction and Texas Right to Life (TRTL), which has demanded that the Women and Child Protection Act is a top priority in the Texas special session.

In regular session, SFLAction fought for passage of the bill, activating our more than 100 Texas student groups on behalf of this innovative effort. Students, staffers, and volunteers demanded that these new, innovative protections be added to the law, despite several setbacks during the fight.

Duke Denman, a Students for Life of America (SFLA) Student Captain at Founders Classical Academy of Leander took on the Texas legislature to lobby for SFLAction-inspired Women and Child Protection Act on both July 21st and August 11th.
“The Women and Child Protection Act will impose civil liabilities on those distributing these dangerous drugs, while explicitly exempting the woman from any penalties,” said Denman. “By focusing on the traffickers who exploit those in vulnerable situations, this bill could have spared Catherine Herring, a Texas woman whose husband slipped chemical abortion drugs into her drink without her knowledge just last year […]—let’s not forget: every single abortion pill takes a human life.”
