The FDA released a court-ordered status report on its review of chemical abortion pills that ignores the reckless practices of the abortion industry & the harms it causes.
“It shouldn’t take a judge to pry some answers from the FDA on the dangers of chemical abortion pills, nor should it take this long to get them. While we are glad to see the FDA giving attention to deadly drugs, this is not enough to address the harms that recklessly approving mifepristone in 2000 did to public health and fertility,” said Students for Life’s Kristan Hawkins. “This pill was designed to kill. Any review that does not acknowledge how this pill is being used today to empower abusers and enrich the new abortion cartel is completely inadequate. And no report without environmental analysis is acceptable. Added to the death toll of chemical abortion pills are deadly risks to endangered species. Today’s status report is incomplete and insufficient.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. (10-07-2026) – Students for Life of America (SFLA) President Kristan Hawkins noted that the evidence showing that mifepristone’s approval was beyond botched is overwhelming as the FDA once again fails to uphold a fair and logical standard for judging the safety of the chemical abortion pills. “This review does not acknowledge the reality of how the abortion industry handles chemical abortion pills, which they are mailing and handing out like candy with no follow-up and dumping into our waterways for all to drink — all so the abortion industry can make a quick buck at the expense of preborn children and women’s lives,” said Hawkins. “This review makes one thing clear: FDA needs a reality check, and fast.”
Reasons to be concerned about the failed report:
- No analysis of the dangers of the drugs to human beings, in light of the unregulated, unmonitored distribution, allowing an abuser’s dream drug to be marketed.
- No analysis of environmental risks that can harm drinking water and aquatic and animal life, including endangered species.
- No analysis of the horrific data pool, as the FDA has not demanded reporting and has relied on abortion-supporter generated public relations reports.
Not only is the content a concern, but the timing. The report states: “FDA is on track to obtain study results by mid-December 2026. FDA will then need to review and evaluate/interpret the results and draft a report. FDA expects to complete that process not later than March 2027 . . . Among other things, that review encompasses consideration of arguments and information submitted to the Agency in multiple pending Citizen Petitions.”
SFLA filed several citizen petitions to the FDA pointing out the environmental and public health concerns mifepristone poses, including its likely impacts on the fertility of endangered species.
The report continues: “Following completion of its study and review, FDA will decide whether changes to the Mifepristone REMS Program are necessary and, if applicable, initiate any such changes in accordance with established processes.”
SFLA has fought to end the mass death-by-pill abortion scheme for nearly a decade and recently filed an intent to sue the FDA under the “Endangered Species Act” for their failure to consider how the over 50 tons of chemical abortion pill pollution being dumped into our waterways each year affects endangered species.

“A new water study has shown that these pills and chemical abortion waste are being flushed down the toilet and tainting our drinking water, not being administered in medical offices and disposed of as biohazards,” said Hawkins. “Moreover, the FDA didn’t even pretend to do proper, legally required environmental testing, gambling the lives of humans and endangered species alike in favor of appealing to the abortion lobby. Enough is enough: we need a real, comprehensive review.”
