Abortion Industry Should Get a Lump of Coal in CDC Data Dump at the Start of the Holiday Season, says Students for Life Action;  “Ending the lives of precious children in the womb is nothing to celebrate at Christmas time.”

There is a silver lining in new birth data, post-Dobbs, showing that “almost a quarter of women who would have gotten abortions carried their pregnancies to term.

“New data on babies born after pro-life protections went in place vindicates the model that the pro-life community has embraced,” said Students for Life Action’s Kristan Hawkins. Talking with the New York Times, she observed: “The insinuation of a lot of coverage of such data points is that it’s a bad thing for there to be more children welcomed in states with better laws than in states that fast-track abortion. It’s a triumph that pro-life policies result in lives saved.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released math for 2021, claiming:

  • Total number of REPORTED abortions INCREASED BY 5% from 2020 to 2021.
  • The REPORTED abortion rate INCREASED BY 5% from 2020 to 2021.
  • But says that the trend lines from 2012 show that fewer abortions are taking place, saying that the total number of REPORTED abortions decreased 8% while the abortion rate decreased 11 %.
  • This increase would have taken place the year before Roe v. Wade was reversed.

“It’s impossible to know whether the abortion lobby is telling the truth in the CDC abortion data dump in the quiet hours before the official holiday season begins,” said Hawkins. “The media will pay attention to this self-serving report, but at Students for Life, we call on Congress to pass a National Abortion Reporting Law, so that we can know what’s really happening. Significantly, this so-called assessment of abortion in America is meaningless without information on the underground and illegal Chemical Abortion Pill trafficking.”

WASHINGTON D.C. (11-22-2023) – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) quietly released abortion data on the eve of Thanksgiving, a data dump that seemed designed to camouflage what might be known about abortion in America. “The United States has no National Abortion Reporting Law,” noted Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins. “What we know about abortion in America comes from data voluntarily reported by abortion vendors to either the CDC or the Planned Parenthood founded Guttmacher Institute. It is irresponsible for the Biden Administration and abortion advocates to agitate for more abortion while hiding the facts about this deadly business.”  To read the CDC’s assessment of the limitations of the report, click here.

Hawkins continued: “The media will pay attention to this self-serving report, but at Students for Life Action, we call on Congress to pass a National Abortion Reporting Law, so that we can know what’s really happening. And we demand that Congress, the Department of Justice, and the Drug Enforcement Agency stop and investigate the illegal Chemical Abortion Pill trafficking taking place online from international abortion pill pushers violating U.S. laws. No test, online distribution of Chemical Abortion Pills exposes women to injury, infertility, death, and even abusers, who use the pills against mothers without their knowledge or consent. And so much of that drug trafficking is in secret.

“Reporters should note the emphasis on ‘reported’ data. This so-called assessment of abortion in America is meaningless without information on the underground and illegal Chemical Abortion Pill trafficking. Abortion vendors will push this report, but ending the lives of children in the womb is nothing to celebrate at Thanksgiving and Christmas time.”

The inadequacy of abortion reporting is well known, as Pew Research Center notes. On their own website, the CDC notes that information is “provided voluntarily … excluding California, the District of Columbia [DC], Maryland, and New Hampshire” who didn’t even bother to address their abortion business.

Students for Life Action (SFLAction), a 501c4, along with its 501c3 sister organization, Students for Life of America (SFLA), make up the nation’s largest, pro-life youth organization, managing a political and policy operation engaging Americans of all ages but with a special emphasis on the largest segment of voters — the Youth Vote. Together they provide political, legal, educational, and community support for women and children, born and preborn. Headquartered in Fredericksburg, VA, SFLA serves more than 1,400 groups on middle, high school, college, medical, and law school campuses in all 50 states. SFLA and SFLAction have more conversations with this generation targeted by the abortion lobby than any other pro-life operation in the world, each week reaching more than 4 million across social media platforms and averaging 1.3 million video views. SFLA has also launched multiple initiatives to lead and serve  the future of the pro-life movement including the Campaign for Abortion Free CitiesStanding With You, and the Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement . Over more than 17 years, President Kristan Hawkins has grown SFLAction/SFLA and the Pro-Life Generation into a nearly $20M organization, now preparing for an abortion-free America.
