“Sen. Josh Hawley fights the good fight with his amendment filed today to keep healthcare dollars out of the hands of the abortion lobby,” said Students for Life’s Kristan Hawkins. “If your healthcare kills people and sterilizes minors on purpose, you’re doing it wrong.”

WASHINGTON D.C. (04-22-2026) – Students for Life Action (SFLAction) President Kristan Hawkins called news that Sen. Josh Hawley has filed an amendment to cut funds from Big Abortion and Planned Parenthood “the right move for assuring pro-life voters that they have been heard.” SFLAction will score any vote related to the amendment, holding the GOP accountable to finish what they started when  the Big, Beautiful Bill was signed by President Trump last year, on July 4.

As a result of the one-year redirection of Medicaid dollars from abortion vendors to real healthcare providers, Planned Parenthood and Big Abortion will be eligible again to take money away from full service, medical providers, to offer limited options at locations that also push abortion and potentially harmful, sterilizing, wrong-sex treatments.

“Those in the GOP complaining that this comes at the mid-terms might need a reminder that we advised defunding for 10 years, which was what the U.S. House plan called for, but at a time in which dedicated voters are needed, shoring up the base means fighting for Life and keep healthcare spending in the hands of those who want all their patients to live,” said Hawkins.
SFLAction sent a score letter to the Hill indicating that we will score whether or not Planned Parenthood and Big Abortion continue to be cut from Medicaid Spending.

Whether by Reconciliation or Fast-Tracked Debarment, Congress Faces a Countdown to Defunding Abortion Vendors

From the score letter: “The Pro-Life Generation asks for a commitment to defunding Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry in any reconciliation measure, in base text language, for no less than 10 years, and as a non-negotiable goal. At the same time, Congress can also call on the Trump Administration to debar Planned Parenthood, reviewing their horrific track record at the agency level, leading to determining that they are unqualified to participate in federal programs. Already, two U.S. Senators have asked for that action from the Small Business Administration, and many organizations have joined Students for Life in calling for a debarment investigation.”
