GUEST POST: The Pro-Life Generation recently gathered outside of former President Trump’s campaign rally in Miami, Florida, holding signs which read “Make Trump Pro-Life Again.” The purpose of our protest was to remind Trump — as we’re reminding the entire Republican party — that the pro-life movement wants our candidate to be unapologetically pro-life.

We are grateful that Trump was the first president to attend and speak at the March for Life, passed pro-life legislation, and even nominated strong pro-life United States Supreme Court justices to help us reverse Roe v. Wade while in office. Yet over the past year, Trump has seemed to falter from his previous pro-life sentiments.

After the midterms in 2022, he said the following on the social media platform Trump Social, “It wasn’t my fault that the Republicans didn’t live up to expectations in the Midterms, it was the ‘abortion issue,’ poorly handled by many Republicans, especially those that firmly insisted on No Exceptions, even in the case of Rape, Incest, or Life of the Mother, that lost large numbers of Voters.”

As the Pro-Life Generation, we know that lives are not worth more depending upon the manner in which they were conceived.

Trump went on to say that abortion restrictions “could be state or it could be federal. I don’t frankly care,” later adding that bans at the state level are “probably better, but I can live with it either way.”

However, as we understand abortion to be a human rights issue, we know that state-by-state policies on the matter won’t suffice. Instead, we want to take this to the federal level — because just like your location inside or outside the womb shouldn’t matter for your life to be respected, your location in California versus Texas should matter for your life to be protected.

For these disappointing comments among others, Students for Life Action (SFLAction) headed to his campaign rally to encourage him to stay strong for life and not be influenced by political consultants who want to weaken his stance.

(Click HERE to read SFLAction President Kristan Hawkins’ op-ed at The Hill entitled “Hey, Donald: You Can’t Ignore the Human Rights Issue of Our Time and Still Get Our Vote.”)

At the event, many agreed with our message and shared with us that they hope he will campaign on the very issue that can get him re-elected to office in 2024: support for the preborn. Like us, they wanted to hear him acknowledge the importance of the abortion issue and lay out his plans for defeating the predatory abortion industry.

We must hold all political candidates accountable for their actions and promises, and as Trump once set the bar very high for the pro-life movement, we naturally have high expectations of his campaign.

We know that Trump has the capacity and resources to represent the pro-life movement and protect life. Our hope is that he will see and hear our message — and as he has boldly claimed he will “Make America Great Again,” we can “Make Trump Pro-Life Again!”
