MEDIA ADVISORY: SFLAction to Hold “Reclaim Your Tax Dollars: Defund Planned Parenthood & Big Abortion National Webcast on TAX DAY

TUNE IN on Tuesday, April 15th at 8 p.m. ET here at SFLAction’s Facebook or YouTube

“President Trump said during the election that he wanted the federal government to get out of the business of abortion. He has to start by telling Planned Parenthood and all abortion vendors to go fund themselves,” said SFLAction’s Kristan Hawkins.

WASHINGTON D.C. (04-15-2025) – Students for Life Action (SFLAction) President Kristan Hawkins sent a letter this week to GOP Members of Congress, calling on them to take advantage of this historic moment and use the reconciliation process to finally cut Planned Parenthood and Big Abortion out of the federal budget. Hawkins will discuss SFLAction’s nationwide plans to support this rare opportunity on a national webcast tonight, Tuesday, April 15th at 8 p.m. ET. While reconciliation is underway, it represents one of several methods that the GOP can take up as they control the White House, U.S. House, and U.S. Senate. A wide range of options will be discussed.

Special guests on the Tax Day Webcast include: Rep. Mark Harris (R-NC); former Ohio state Rep. Jena Powell;  formerPlanned Parenthood executive and founder of And Then There Were None Abby Johnson, and SFLAction Vice Presidentof Media & Policy Kristi Hamrick.

TUNE IN at 8 p.m. ET here at SFLAction’s Facebook or YouTube

SFLAction has spearheaded a national call-to-action campaign, demanding that defunding Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry be cut off from taxpayer resources, which has included:

Media outreach, including editorial content: Kristan Hawkins Lays Out a Case for Trump Defunding Planned Parenthood in Recent Washington Times Op-ed: “Stop Funding Your Political Enemies.”

In this current phase of the Defund Planned Parenthood & Big Abortion campaign, SFLAction will ultimately visit many U.S. House and U.S. Senate offices. As this is going on, a letter from Hawkins went to Capitol Hill.

The letter reads as follows:

Defund Planned Parenthood and the

Abortion Industry through Reconciliation

Dear Members of U.S. House and Senate,

Students for Life Action (SFLAction), on behalf of more than 1,500 student groups and more than 225,000 trained activists operating in all 50 states, calls on Members of Congress to steward the process of reconciliation to reverse an epic waste in federal funds with life and death consequences. Considering President Trump’s place at the helm and the GOP in control of both the U.S. House and U.S. Senate, our nation’s leadership has the unique opportunity to defund Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry, redirecting scarce resources from disreputable and inadequate abortion vendors to real, full-service medical care providers.

We call on Members of Congress to defund all abortion vendors through the reconciliation process, now officially underway, in base text language and as a non-negotiable requirement. SFLAction is considering this for a scored vote, and we note our Pro-Life Generation Report Card includes sponsorship and co-sponsorship of measures, to award both votes and vision.

For the Pro-Life Generation, defunding Planned Parenthood and all abortion vendors through reconciliation and all tools available continues to be our top priority for the GOP. This may be the only chance we have in Congress this year to save preborn children and to cut funds now wasted on the abortion industry. After years of abortion fealty by the Democratic Party, Planned Parenthood and their friends have raked in billions. We are calling on Republican leadership to be just as committed to protecting Life and taxpayer resources as Sen. Chuck Schumer and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi were in forcing pro-abortion votes and spending. The Democrats’ rank and file did not compromise on abortion. The GOP caucus should not compromise in defense of LIFE.

This rare but optimal opportunity exists becausereconciliation only needs a simple majority to pass and because the infrastructure for support — in federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) and pregnancy resource centers — is already in place. If Planned Parenthood stops receiving federal funding, women and their children, born and preborn, will not suffer a lack of care. In fact, they will save themselves time and money by receiving care from FQHCs and pregnancy resource centers with complete medical service, rather than just receiving contraception and sales pitch for abortion from a Planned Parenthood vendor.

Poor women and their children, born and preborn, will not suffer a lack of care and can save themselves time and money in going to locations with complete medical service, rather than just getting contraception and sales pitch for abortion from a Planned Parenthood.

As I noted recently at the Defund Planned Parenthood and the Abortion Lobby event on the Capitol grounds, along with SBA Pro-Life America, March for Life, Family Research Council,Concerned Women for America, and Members of Congress: “We can Make America Healthy Again by ensuring those healthcare dollars continue to stay with women and families who need them and can get to one of the already 1,400 federally-qualified, high quality health care centers who operate 19,000 service sites, who aren’t lobby agencies, who provide fully comprehensive healthcare services, and who understand that when a pregnant woman walks in their doors, they have two patients to treat.”

Abortion is federal because we pay for it. Planned Parenthood still receives about $700 million in government funds through Medicaid funding and federal grants.  A prejudice in favor of abortion lurks in mandates and pollutes policy throughout Health & Human Services (HHS), the Food & Drug Administration (FDA), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), to name only a few. SFLAction has detailed numerous ways in which federal dollars go toward abortion, documented here.

In addition, the federal government has probable cause to not only defund Planned Parenthood but also investigate and debar them. Even the New York Times reported that the working conditions and patient care were unhealthy and unsafe.  Accusations and evidence of Planned Parenthood issues include reports of:

  • Illegal trafficking of baby body parts
  • Medicare/Medicaid fraud
  • Failing to follow health & safety standards
  • Failure to report sex crimes
  • Racist work environment

It has been a cruel and wasteful abuse of power to insist that ending life deserves equal billing with life-saving care. And to those in the GOP wondering about a political cost for such change, I ask, why are you funding your political adversaries?

As I’ve written before: “President Trump’s political enemies, including Big Abortion Pharma and Planned Parenthood, have long gone after Republicans with the same viciousness they employ against innocent life in the womb. Their aggressive election and lobbying operations net scores of Democratic political victories and serious cash, and their political friends haven’t been shy with U.S. taxpayers’ money.”

To work with us on this, please email our Government Affairs Coordinator at [email protected].

The Pro-Life Generation asks for a commitment to defunding Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry in reconciliation, in base text language and as a non-negotiable goal. In defunding Planned Parenthood and Big Abortion, the GOP ends a political gift to a corrupt and well-connected Democratic Party friend and ally. But most importantly, thank you for standing with the preborn and their mothers and all Americans whose consciences are violated by the on-going, tax-payer support of abortion in America.
