Rising Political Violence Trends Represent the Pro-Life Reality, Too

Political violence has once again erupted, casting its shadow across all fronts, including the pro-life movement. In the past two weeks alone:

  • Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and his family survived an arson attack which left their home destroyed.
  • A Wisconsin teenager reportedly killed his parents “obtain the financial means and autonomy necessary” to assassinate President Donald Trump.
  • Pro-life activist Savannah Craven was sucker-punched by an abortion supporter during a street interview in New York City.

The City Journal reports that already this year, Congress members received 9,000 death threats, all while Tesla vehicles and dealerships are being burned and bruised by Leftist extremists. This, of course, is in the remaining shadow of the nearly successful attempt on President Trump’s life in Pennsylvania and the successful murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

It would be easy to frame this as a Left versus Right issue, but ultimately, violence comes down to evil seeking to dominate and drown out good. Enter the Pro-Life Generation (PLG): appalled but hardly surprised by the rapid rise in Leftist brutality as we’ve always been one of the biggest targets.

The pro-life movement often takes center stage as the punching bag. After all, saving preborn children from abortion slaughterhouses and starvation via pills seems to ruffle the feathers of unrepentant abortion zealots.

It grew worse during the summer of rage brought on by George Floyd’s death, however, giving abortion extremists and Leftist fanatics the green light to set fire to businesses, burglarize homes, assault bystanders, and physically attack pro-life advocates.

In fact, Students for Life Action (SFLAction) Government Coordinator and Minnesota native Savanna Deretich described in a recent Fox News op-ed the firsthand horrors of the “summer of love,” which turned cities “into a fiery ash heap, forcing my friends to flee for their lives due to shootings, riots, violence, left-wing activists blocking major highways, and mobs right in front of their doorsteps” as “gunshots flew through the windows of homes, killing innocent bystanders, sending gas stations and grocery stores into flames, and allowing rioters to loot at their leisure.”

Unsurprisingly, the birthplace of 2020’s unrelenting violence was home to former Vice-Presidential nominee Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, who allows abortion up until birth and even infanticide. Is it no wonder that those who allow violence towards the preborn also permit it on their born citizens?

We don’t think so.

Abortion-loving politicians especially don’t seem to mind if the violence is against those who protect preborn innocence. Under the Biden-Harris Administration, turning a blind eye to vandalism and violence toward pro-lifers was normal. After Trump entered the White House, Sen. Hawley pointed this out, calling the Biden Harris Administration a “disgraceful chapter” and citing more than 100 Pregnancy Help Centers (PHCs) and 300 churches attacked by violent abortion zealots, vandalized and firebombed. The Department of Justice (DOJ) only investigated TWO of those hundreds of cases.

If that’s not bad enough, at one point in February 2024, the University of Maryland, “supported by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Science and Technology Directorate,” had enough guts to say WE were the terrorists, right up there with Hamas and the KKK.

From 2020 onward, Students for Life of America (SFLA) experienced a floodgate of emboldened violent protestors and students, whether it was on campus, in front of the U.S. Supreme Court, or at an event. Here are just a few of the incidents SFLA has witnessed from 2020 to 2022:

As the contentious presidential election came into sight, no college offered more bizarre, violent, and unsettling incidents than Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU)… despite being nestled in the birthplace of democracy.

During SFLA President Kristan Hawkins and Conservative Influencer Isabel Brown’s “Lies Pro-Choicers Believe” Tour, their scheduled event was taken over by Antifa and transgender abortion supporters, some of which were violent and assaulted pro-lifers. Campus police failed to adequately step in. In fact, Autumn Walser, the President of the Students for Life at VCU at the time, was hurt to the extent that Emergency Medical Services were required.

“When my group attempted to host Kristan and Isabel to speak, I had no idea that it would become extremely violent and that I would end up getting hurt during one of the altercations,” Walser told SFLA. “While I was recording on my phone, one of the aggressive pro-abortion protesters had to be taken out of the room by our security guard since VCU police were not helping. The protestor was kicking and resisting so aggressively that I ended up getting shoved full force into a table against the wall.

“While in intense pain, I limped to a safe room where I discovered a golf ball-sized welt and a growing bruise on my leg. We called the EMTs to examine my leg to see if I needed to go to the hospital. Thankfully, they confirmed that it was not broken but told me I have severe bone and muscle bruising, as well as swelling.”

Despite that horrible visit, Hawkins came back two months later. And to no one’s surprise, it was just as crazy, including a mantra from the Satanic Temple.

Fast forward to 2024 after the election, and SFLA’s Lydia Taylor Davis was MOBBED by VCU abortion zealots. SFLA reported

“As students chanted ‘abortion on demand!’ as if they were asking for faster cable rather than killing children, they attempted to drown out Davis and respectful abortion-leaning students who wanted to have an honest debate and discussion. Instead of ‘caring for women,’ as many pro-abortion supporters claim, an angry student spit at Davis, and one student stole fetal models and tore up SFLA event flyers. Thankfully, security was there to catch and arrest him.

The online threats were abundant, calling Davis an ‘evil b*tch,’ encouraging people to ‘push her to the curb,’ wishing her pain and death, and more despicable names, which are hardly civil arguments, but rather unfounded and unintelligent attacks.”

On the bright side, it allowed Davis to write a Daily Wire op-ed on her experience and the need to protect free speech.

Even after the 2024 election, an SFLA-partnered table was vandalized by a UNC Asheville student, our Cemetery of the Innocents displays were destroyed, and Davis (again) was mobbed during Florida’s pro-life march. SFLA has been forced to incur increasing security costs to prevent physical assaults and vandalism due to ongoing death threats against staff and students, especially during Kristan Hawkins and Davis’ spring tours.

If anyone knows the dangers of rising violence, it’s the pro-life movement. Sadly, it’s part of our story, but this reality doesn’t deter us from an even starker reality for preborn babies on the chopping block for abortion. Their preborn lives are worth the risks and precautions we take every day to spread the message of Life on and off campuses nationwide.
