Late-Term Abortion Was Already Legal in Minnesota – So Why Did Governor Tim Walz Remove the Last Remaining Limits?

“Late term abortion isn’t real.”

It’s a common lie that we in the Pro-Life Generation hear – and one we have addressed ad nauseam. The short version is that it does happen, and to the tune of thousands of babies per year facing it, according to the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) own data.

And there have even been Senate hearings where this lie has been called out in real time.

And yet, despite the myth that late-term abortions don’t happen, numerous states have no limits or barely any limits at all, like Vermont, Alaska, Colorado, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington DC, and yes, Minnesota.

According to reporting from Fox News: “Walz showcased his ‘radical abortion stance’ when he signed ‘Minnesota legislation that includes no limitations on when a woman may end the life of her unborn baby’ last year.”

Walz signed the ‘Protect Reproductive Options Act’ into state law in January 2023. The legislation codified a Minnesota resident’s right to an abortion, or any other form of ‘reproductive health care,’ without any restriction or regulation from local government.”

But before Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota signed into law HF 1, the Protect Reproductive Options (PRO) Act, the state had some of the loosest abortion restrictions in the country. In fact, prior to 2023, the state already had a Constitutional right to abortion, albeit with some restrictions that pro-life advocates fought to put and keep in place.

As SFLAction President Kristan Hawkins noted in a now viral post on X (formerly Twitter) on Aug 6, Walz “signed a bill letting babies die who are BORN ALIVE after a failed abortion.”In fact, according to data from his own Minnesota Department of Health and reporting from the National Review , “since Governor Walz was inaugurated in 2019, eight babies survived abortion attempts in Minnesota. On five occasions, no measures were taken to preserve life. ”

So why did Walz do this?

The same reason is that Gov. Walz allowed abortion in Minnesota to become taxpayer funded on the grounds of “discrimination,” while pushing for the state funding of Pregnancy Resource Centers to be cut.

Ultimately, it’s because Gov. Walz is a rabidly left-wing political radical that is doing what his pro-abortion donors and voters want.  Sadly, the Democrat Party have long since abandoned the Clinton-era mantra of Safe, legal, and rare” and given way to “without restriction and without apology.”

As the Associated Press noted in 2022“They credit the backlash against the U.S. Supreme Court decision last summer to reverse Roe v. Wade for their takeover of the state Senate and for keeping their House majority in a year when Republicans expected to make gains.”

Another way of describing it is “abortion, or else.”

As we’ve seen from Vice President Harris, who targeted pro-life groups and activists during her tenure as Attorney General in California and her time as a senator, this kind of politicization and pandering to the worst forms of political left-wing extremism is only going to get worse.

And if they ever obtain the power of the executive branch, one can only fathom the nightmare they will unleash.
