Late Term Abortions Are Real & Infants Need Protection

Students for Life Action’s Kristan Hawkins Joined EXPOSE LATE-TERM ABORTION EVENTS in D.C. as students engage in activism across the country.

EVERY national Democratic Party leader and most of their state officials embrace the radical abortion position of abortion through all nine months, for any reason at all, and taxpayer funded. In fact, in blocking the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, they even support infanticide for infants who survive a botched abortion. If you don’tbelieve us, challenge the Biden Administration and every politician: ‘Where do YOU draw the line on abortion?’” said SFLA’s Kristan Hawkins. “Abortion is on the ballot, as radical abortion activists control the agenda of President Biden and his entire team.”

As part of Expose Late Term Abortion Day, Students for Life Action (SFLAction) President Kristan Hawkins joined the Abortion Survivors Network panel discussion in Washington D.C. on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, part of a lobbying effort in the nation’s capital. The need for the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act (S.204) was front and center as Senator Roger Marshall (R-KS), Melissa Ohden (Founder & CEO, Abortion Survivors Network), and Melanie Israel (Heritage Foundation) also addressed the reality of later and late-term abortion in the United States.

The wide-ranging discussion, moderated by Ohden who is an abortion survivor, illustrated the need for legal protections for babies born during botched abortion.

Sen. Marshall, an Ob-Gyn, has delivered 5,000 babies as part of his career, and discussed the need to protect the lives and health of mothers and their infants – in and out of the womb.

But it’s not just about abortion, which actively ends a child’s life, it’s about providing care for the babies we know survive it. Sen. Marshall said, “We are still murdering these babies by being passive” without the Born Alive protections.

Hawkins made the following remarks:

The game played by the abortion lobby and their political allies involves talking about everything but abortion, understood as the deliberate death of an infant in the womb by the actions of an abortionist – maybe with drugs or deadly surgery, maybe after causing a heart attack first with a shot to the baby’s heart. They want to talk about CHOICE, or ACCESS, or even FREEDOM as though it’s liberating to end innocent life.

And we know that some babies do survive that intended death sentence. We can see my friend Melissa here today as living proof.

If you monitored most Corporate Abortion statements or survey most media, you get very mixed messages about Late-Term Abortion. One, that late- term abortion doesn’t happen; Two, that it’s so rare as to be insignificant, (as though that makes it better). And Three, that it’s only in cases of emergency, when there is nothing in most laws requiring that.

Talking points are not facts. And facts can be hard to come by.

Abortion data in the U.S. is mostly smoke and mirrors, as we have no National Abortion Reporting law. Some states report data to the CDC, some to Planned Parenthood-founded abortion advocate, The Guttmacher Institute, both of which speculate on the big picture. Some states, like California, report nothing at all.

But this is the picture of abortion as painted by abortionists themselves.

In 2020, the CDC reported that more than 9 in 10 abortions (93.1%) take place by three months of pregnancy (12 weeks).

That leaves almost 7% (6.9 to be exact), taking place later and late in pregnancy. Of that, 5.8% of abortions end lives from 14 to 20 weeks (5 months), leaving more than one percent (1.1%) in the last months of pregnancy.

Again, using the CDC numbers, where they claimed  620,327 took place, that means, conservatively, almost 3,600 babies face later-term abortions with 682 babies poised to be able to live outside the womb at risk of infanticide, if they survive a botched abortion.

People intuitively understand that ending the life of a baby who can live outside the womb is barbaric, and even more so, they know that Born Alive protections matter after a baby is born. Why wouldn’t you offer medical care to a child, struggling in front of you?”

Hawkins noted, “Even now, the Democrats and their allies in the abortion industrial complex are pushing to pass The Women’s Health Protection Act, which would allow abortions up until birth, an end to a state’s right to support any limits, and an attack on the conscience rights of medical professionals who want to do no harm. Once you add in Democratic opposition to providing medical care for infants who survive a botched abortion, it’s clear that even infanticide is okay with the radical extremists running abortion policy.” READ MORE on a life-saving agenda here.
