SFLAction Supports Alabama’s Proposed Chemical Abortion Ban, HB 377

“The Chemical Abortion Pill is not healthcare. The purpose medicine is to heal — not kill.,” said SFLAction’s Kristan Hawkins.

MONTGOMERY, A.L., & WASHINGTON D.C. (02-10-2021) – Today, Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins said that the Chemical Abortion Prohibition Act, introduced by Alabama State Representative Andrew Sorrell, will protect preborn children and women. Approximately 40% of the children who die in abortion in the US are killed by the Chemical Abortion Pill, and it is four times more dangerous for the woman than surgical abortion.

Kristan Hawkins stated: “Abortion is not healthcare. The purpose of medicine is to heal — not kill. The dangerous expansion of the Chemical Abortion Pill is a public health crisis in the making, threatening women with infertility, severe hemorrhage, missed ectopic pregnancy (which can be fatal), and a slew of other physical and psychological risks. For the child, chemical abortion is a barbaric death sentence carried out by chemically induced starvation. The Chemical Abortion Pill has claimed the lives of countless children and has injured (in some cases killed) thousands of women; it should be banned.”

New polling commissioned by Students for Life in January 2021 found that Millennials and Gen Z support requiring life-saving, physical exams before a Chemical Abortion to protect women’s lives and health. Preventing abusive people and partners from anonymously getting Chemical Abortion Pills that they slip to pregnant mothers without their consent got the greatest agreement from those demographics. By a margin of 55% to 23%, Millennials and Gen Z supported in-person purchase to stop abuse. The Chemical Abortion Pill is deadly and dangerous, and Students for Life found that more than half (52%) of 18- to 34-year-old voters would vote for Congressional candidates who supported regulating the killing drug.

The Chemical Abortion Prohibition Act would make it a Class C felony to “manufacture, distribute, prescribe, dispense, sell, or transfer” the Chemical Abortion Pill in the state of Alabama.
