“Students for Life has a winning, primary strategy as we work to build up a pro-life majority in legislatures, once race at time,” said SFLAction President Kristan Hawkins.
SFLAction Picks Who Prevailed:
- South Carolina State Rep. John McCravy III, honored in 2025 by the National Association of Christian Lawmakers (NACL) and SFLAction for his pro-life courage and accomplishments, including serving as the lead sponsor on SFLAction’s model “Life at Conception” bill to end legal abortions. For his pro-life leadership, McCravy became a target by moderate GOP House leadership.
- South Carolina State Rep. Thomas Beach, member of the House Freedom Caucus, attacked by House Leadership for supporting McCravy throughout the last year.
- South Carolina State Rep. April Cromer, member of the House Freedom Caucus, also attacked by House Leadership for supporting McCravy throughout the last year.
- South Carolina State Rep. Dianne Mitchell, attacked by House Leadership for not backing down from her pro-life values. She has a 100% pro-life rating on SFLAction’s survey and supported McCravy throughout the last year.
- South Carolina State Rep. John Lastinger, attacked by House Leadership for not backing down from his pro-life values, filled out SFLAction’s survey as 100% pro-life. In a tough fight, he also stood by McCravy throughout the last year.
- Nevada’s 2nd U.S. Congressional District Candidate David Flippo, who campaigned on a rock-solid 100% pro-life platform backed by both President Trump and approved by SFLAction, turning in his survey 100% pro-life, emerged victorious over pro-abortion, former State Senator James Settelmeyer.
WASHINGTON D.C. (06-10-2026) – Six Students for Life Action (SFLAction) candidates in South Carolina and Nevada prevailed in another round of primary contests. Also significant last night, U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace finished last in her bid to get the Republican nomination for South Carolina’s Governor seat. SFLAction previously noted that Mace was one of former President Biden’s “Favorite Republicans,” known to disrupt the progress of pro-life legislation.
“With last night’s wins, we are poised to move some important legislation in South Carolina and Nevada. A big winner for us was a true champion, South Carolina’s John McCravy, advancing despite opposition from his own party, along with many of his colleagues,” said SFLAction President Kristan Hawkins. “Last night’s primaries in South Carolina proved that when you stand for babies and fill out your SFLAction candidate survey, you get elected. And when you don’t, you get ‘Maced.’ As ProPublica just wrote, SFLAction has a winning strategy in states that holds leaders accountable for fighting to abolish abortion.”
SFLAction identified winners last night included:
- SC State Rep. John McCravy III advances to the general election with his victory in the primary for SC State House District 13. He has sponsored, co-sponsored, and pushed votes on numerous pro-life legislations, including the SFLAction-championed “Fetal Heartbeat Protection from Abortion Act” (S.0474), SFLAction’s “Human Life Protection Act” (H.3457), the SFLAction-inspired “Abortion-Inducing Drugs Act” (H.4760), and an amendment to defund Planned Parenthood in South Carolina.

- SC State Rep. Thomas Beach advanced in the Republican primary race reelection to SC State House District 10. When leadership set its sights on dismantling the House Freedom Caucus, Beach found himself squarely in the crosshairs. He chose loyalty to McCravy during a grueling year of internal political warfare.
- SC State Rep. April Cromer advanced in the Republican primary race for reelection to SC State House District 6. When leadership set its sights on dismantling the House Freedom Caucus,Cromer found herself squarely in the crosshairs. She continued to work with McCravy during a grueling year of internal political warfare.
- SC State Rep. Dianne Mitchell also advanced in the Republican primary race for reelection to SC State House District 21. She had been fighting against House Leadership by being supportive of McCravy and his legislative efforts. She also turned in their SFLAction surveys 100% pro-life and because of that support was able to win her very close primary.
- SC State Rep. John Lastinger also advanced in the Republican primary race for reelection to SC State House District 88 and worked with McCravy to advance pro-life legislation. He turned in an SFLAction survey as 100% pro-life, pledging to protect Life in law and in service.
- Nevada’s 2nd U.S. Congressional District Candidate David Flippo, who campaigned on a rock-solid 100% pro-life platform backed by both President Trump and approved by SFLAction turning in his survey 100% pro-life, emerged victorious over former State Senator James Settelmeyer in the open seat Republican primary. The outcome serves as a cautionary tale for the establishment: Settelmeyer, who once used his position as Minority Whip to steer taxpayer dollars toward Planned Parenthood, learned that the pro-life movement has a long memory. Voters proved that funding your opponent’s agenda comes with major, career-ending consequences.
Reflecting on Tuesday’s victories, Hawkins observed: “These results paint a clear picture for the remainder of the election season: candidates who stand firm for Life are finding that when they take the heat, their constituents are more than ready to provide cover. And that’s why you find us on the campaign trail, especially in primaries.”
