“We build a Culture of Life one act at time, and, in this bill, my home state of West Virginia has a chance to allow babies a second chance at life, after being dosed by deadly Chemical Abortion Pills,” said Students for Life’s Kristan Hawkins. “But while the state Senate has been fearless at defending LIFE in the womb, the state House has failed to advance the kind of bills voters demand from leaders who say they care about mothers and preborn babies. Babies deserved a chance at LIFE, and it’s up to the House to give it to them.”

CHARLESTON, W.V. (03-04-2026) — Students for Life Action (SFLAction) President Kristan Hawkins applauded the West Virginia Senate’s passage of the “Support for Mothers and Babies Act,” SB 805, a bill that, if enacted, would offer mothers the resources and support they need to confidently choose Life.
The bill, which passed the Senate by a vote of XX to XX, would build on the state’s existing Mothers and Babies Pregnancy Support Program, a $3 million program that offers grants to pro-life Pregnancy Resource Centers to provide medical care, financial assistance, parenting education, and other material resources to mothers and babies in The Mountain State.
The new bill expands that program to include funding for life-saving Abortion Pill Reversal treatments. If enacted, it would:
- Authorize the distribution of state funds to Pregnancy Resource Centers to cover the costs of providing and promoting Abortion Pill Reversal.
- Explicitly ban pro-abortion organizations from receiving program funding.
- Allow eligible organizations to use state funding for capital expenditures, staff training, and new services associated with Abortion Pill Reversal.
This session, the West Virginia Senate has shown just how pro-life they are by:
- Passing SB 173, the SFLAction-inspired “Anti-Chemical Abortion Pill Trafficking Act,” which would impose criminal and civil penalties on abortion vendors prescribing and shipping deadly Chemical Abortion Pills in the state.
- Taking up SB 599, a bill that would prohibit abortifacients.
- Taking up SB 43, a bill that would remove rape and incest exceptions from state law.
Their move to pass SB 805 represents yet another way West Virginia legislators are putting mothers and babies first, showing they’re not just anti-abortion but truly pro-life.
Yet, despite the W.V. Senate’s best efforts to enact real change for women and babies, the state’s House has refused to follow suit. Instead, it has consistently ignored, delayed, and blocked attempts to pass pro-life legislation, even refusing to take up the “Anti-Chemical Abortion Pill Trafficking Act,” which would save thousands of lives by preventing deadly Chemical Abortion Pills from entering the state.
Hawkins observed: “Such wavering is unacceptable. It’s time for the West Virginia House to learn from their Senate colleagues and pass the life-saving pro-life legislation that their constituents want.”
SFLAction is calling on the West Virginia House to take up all pro-life legislation passed by the Senate immediately. To join us and call on a representative to act, click here.
