“’The Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act‘ affirms a simple but profound truth: every human life has inherent dignity and worth. In a world where advancing technology can be used to discriminate against the most vulnerable before birth, this legislation calls us back to our deepest moral commitment that no child should be judged or rejected because of who they are or their abilities. Protecting preborn children from discrimination is not just a policy choice, but a reflection of our national conscience and our belief in equal human dignity for all.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. (06-09-2026) — Students for Life Action (SFLAction) is urging Congress to reintroduce an enhanced Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act (PRENDA), legislation designed to prohibit abortions sought on the basis of a preborn child’s sex or race and for other purposes, to reinforce the principle that discrimination should not extend to the most vulnerable members of the human family.
Originally introduced in previous sessions of Congress, PRENDA would establish federal protections against sex and race-selective abortion practices, as well as and for other purposes, to affirm that every child deserves equal dignity and protection under the law, regardless of their biological characteristics. Supporters of the legislation say that with advances in prenatal testing allowing parents to determine a child’s sex early in pregnancy, the need for clear protections has become even more urgent.
“Every human life has inherent dignity and worth no matter their abilities, and that includes the preborn,” said SFLAction President Kristan Hawkins. “No child should be targeted for abortion because of their sex or race. Reintroducing PRENDA is a necessary step toward ensuring that our laws reflect the fundamental truth that discrimination in any form is wrong.”
Advocates are calling on members of Congress to prioritize the bill in the current legislative session and to join efforts to advance protections that align with longstanding civil rights principles.
“This is about consistency in our national values,” the statement continued. “If discrimination is wrong after birth, it is wrong before birth.”
