Wade’s corrupt legacy came to an end, the Pro-Life Generation has called for acknowledgment that the 14th Amendment protects all lives – in and out of the womb,” said Students for Life Action’s (SFLAction) Kristan Hawkins. “The most significant contribution that the GOP platform makes for LIFE comes in celebrating the fact that the 14th Amendment ‘guarantees’ legal protection for the preborn. While it’s true that state legislators are now welcomed into this fight for life, the end of Roe actually means that all our elected leaders – local, state, and federal – can now engage on the human rights issue of the day. Next up: We are still waiting for President Trump’s new deal with the Pro-Life movement, but given the state focus of this platform, we are asking President Trump to call for Republican voters to reject the extreme, late-term abortion ballot initiatives across the country, beginning in Florida where he visits tomorrow.”
WASHINGTON D.C. (07-08-2024): SFLAction President Kristan Hawkins reacted to news that the GOP had swiftly passed the 2024 Party Platform, calling it “the next step in educating people about the role that the 14th Amendment should have today in protecting life in law and service.” For the last two years, on the anniversary of the fall of Roe v. Wade, Students for Life of America (SFLA) sponsored National Celebrate Life Day, at the Lincoln Memorial to highlight the reality that with Roe gone, the human rights of all Americans – born and preborn – are anchored again in the 14th Amendment.
Prior to the announcement today, Hawkins noted that in a post-Roe America, it’s important to educate elected leaders about what is now possible. She said: “The Dobbs decision did not limit governmental engagement on abortion to the states; it opened the door for a state’s right to engage on the human rights issue of our day. And while we agree that abortion is now also a state issue, with Roe gone, it is not only a state issue. We are looking for our federal officials to have a federal plan.
“If the goal is to lessen a federal role, then you have to end the bias of the federal government in spending and programming for abortion. There is no more federal issue than the No Test, Online Distribution of Chemical Abortion Pills, as set up by three Democratic Party Presidents. In addition, hundreds of millions of dollars have been lost to Planned Parenthood, which should be debarred and defunded. And then there is the viewpoint discrimination and weaponization of policy against Pro-Life Americans, from abuse of the FACE Act to the EMTALA case, in which a federal policy interpretation change is pushing abortion into hospital emergency rooms.
“For those running for federal office, have a federal plan for how to protect LIFE in law and in service and how to end the weaponization of the federal government against peaceful Pro-Life Americans and the preborn.”
