MEDIA ADVISORY: THURSDAY, March 6, 10 a.m. ET — Hearing on the nomination of Dr. Martin Makary as Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The hearing can be watched here.
“President Trump, along with Health & Human Services (HHS) Secretary RFK Jr., has spoken directly about ending the weaponization of federal agencies, used to push a political agenda rather than a health care goal – such as Making America Healthy Again. The Chemical Abortion Pills policy represents the perfect example. Women and preborn babies have been sacrificed to facilitate a quick sale by abortion pill pushers, much to the delight of abusers. Meanwhile, abortion water pollution hurts us all,” said SFLAction’s Kristan Hawkins.
WASHINGTON D.C. (03- 06-2025) – Students for Life Action (SFLAction) President Kristan Hawkins praised President Donald Trump’s nomination for U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner – Dr. Martin “Marty” Makary – as an “honest medical professional who has seen the suffering preborn children horrifically experienced during an abortion and addressed it. That kind of honesty about the human rights issue of our day will make a huge difference at the FDA, where politics have trumped health and common sense.”
Students for Life of America has led the way in addressing the most weaponized of agency efforts – the FDA’s recklessness and negligence in pushing Chemical Abortion Pills forward without regard for public health and safety – whether born or preborn.

AN OVERVIEW:
Three Democratic Party Presidents forced the deadly pills on the U.S. market and then began to deregulate them, despite known risks.
For example, the pills don’t work well later in pregnancy; don’t work when a woman is experiencing a life-threatening ectopic pregnancy – outside of the womb; and sometimes don’t work at all, leading to deaths from infection. To address this reality, when the pills were first forced on the market by then-President Clinton, FDA policy required that a mother be administered an ultrasound before and after the pills.
But no more.
Consider that about 2% of people have a peanut allergy, and we rightly protect their lives with all kinds of safeguards … but about 2% of women will experience an ectopic pregnancy, and today Chemical Abortion Pills are just sent out without demanding an ultrasound first.
The abortion business used to test and treat for Rh-negative status, which impacts about 15% of the population. If there is an exchange of blood between mother and child, by birth, abortion, or miscarriage, antibodies can form that will forever attack future pregnancies, making a woman essentially infertile. But that is no more.

Getting rid of Rh-negative testing & treatment, along with ultrasound requirements, doesn’t protect women – it helps the abortion vendor that can cut testing and personnel costs & ship Chemical Abortion Pills for profit.
Sex abusers can now easily get the pills, facilitated by the anonymous online sale of pills.
And there are issues with clean water as well. Hospitals and brick-and-mortar abortion vendors can’t flush pathological medical waste, which includes aborted human remains, into our waterways. But today, with more than six in 10 abortions committed with pills, tons of chemically tainted blood, placenta tissue, and human remains are flushed into our waterways.

Students for Life of America has filed five citizen petitions to the FDA – four of which address environmental concerns and reports from other countries that have looked into this, while our own government has prioritized the distribution and not environmental testing. In 2024, then Sen. Marco Rubio and Rep. Josh Brecheen led a bicameral letter to the EPA, following Students for Life of America’s EPA letter and a coalition of more than 40 organizations’ letter to the EPA, asking for the forever chemicals of Chemical Abortion Pills to be tracked.
Similar requests for water testing as part of the pill approval process have been made to the FDA, and SFLA’s amicus brief in the Chemical Abortion Pill review that ended at the Supreme Court noted the failure of the FDA to determine the impact of abortion water pollution on endangered species.
“The Endangered Species Act requires federal agencies to follow certain restrictions when undertaking “actions” that may harm listed species or habitats. This process has been thoroughly litigated and set out since 1973 and no federal agency is exempt from its provisions. Despite this, on at least five occasions the Food and Drug Administration did not conduct the statutorily required consultation with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (“FWS”) and National Marine Fisheries Service (“NMFS”) (collectively, “Services”) as it relates to Mifepristone …
“The current list of endangered species recognized by the Services contains nearly 1,500 different species and can be found on the Fish and Wildlife Service’s website. Multiple endangered species may be affected by the approval of Mifepristone, but the extent is unknown due to the FDA’s failure to consult as required by Section 7 of the ESA.”
The list of those harmed by Chemical Abortion Pills is long and getting longer.
It includes: Preborn Infants; their Mothers; Animals, Aquatic Life, and Plant Life; and Every American Who Wants Crystal Clear Drinking Water.
Those who love the reckless policy: Abortion Pill Pushers; Abuser & Sex Traffickers; and Politicians cashing donor checks from Big Abortion Pharma.
And strangest of all, polling of Gen Z and Gen Y registered voters conducted by YouGov and SurveyUSA in January by Students for Life and the Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancementreports that MORE THAN 9 IN 10 younger voters support all of the health and safety standards discussed, as well as protecting the environment.
