“A reckless Chemical Abortion Pills pushing policy exposes mothers to abusers, who use the deadly drugs against them without their knowledge or consent. This also supersizes the risk of injury, infertility, and death for women taking Chemical Abortion Pills all alone and without help. Add to that the environmental harms from chemically tainted blood and placenta tissue, along with human remains, all flushed into South Carolina’s waterways, and we have a perfect storm of disaster,” said Students for Life’s Kristan Hawkins. “This bill will target the new abortion cartels, operating in the Palmetto state, and pocketing money made from human tragedy.”

COLUMBIA, S.C. (02–04–2026) — Students for Life Action (SFLAction) President Kristan Hawkins applauded the recent roll call vote on the SFLAction-inspired “Abortion-Inducing Drugs Act” (H 4760), which if signed into law would impose criminal and civil penalties on Chemical Abortion Pill vendors prescribing and shipping the deadly pills within and into South Carolina. Representatives passed the “Abortion-Inducing Drugs Act” by a vote of 76 to 28. “Innovation at the state level proves that elections matter, and we applaud those legislators who prioritized protecting women from abusers and injury, and ask the state senate to do the same. We will be educating voters about how their leaders did in protecting Life, as Chemical Abortion Pills are the number one method of death by intentional abortion,” said Hawkins.
SFLAction was heavily involved in the introduction and support of the “Abortion-Inducing Drugs Act,” introduced by Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Rep. Wes Newton and co-sponsored by SFLAction Pro-Life Champion Rep. John McCravy, along with many other Pro-Life allies in the state. Another champion in the process is Rep. Sarita Edgerton, who filed the measure last year in the House.
In a January 2026 Students for Life of America’s Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement poll just released and conducted by Survey USA, 94% of youth voters said a federal review of Chemical Abortion Pill policy was important, and half said they would support in-person dispensing requirements for Chemical Abortion Pills to protect women from abuse, with only 27% opposing in-person dispensing requirements. Abortion Water Pollution testing had 94% support.
If passed, here’s what the “Abortion-Inducing Drugs Act” will do in South Carolina:
- Prohibit mailing, shipping, or prescribing abortifacients, including from out-of-state sources.
- Classify committing or attempting to commit an abortion using an abortifacient on a mother as a felony punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment or a fine of up to $100,000.
- Reinforce state sovereignty over medical regulation.
- Provide remedies, including injunctive relief of $10,000 in damages per violation and recovery of court costs and attorney’s fees. The bill excludes convicted abusers, traffickers, and rapists from bringing such civil actions.
- Allow civil actions to be filed up to three years after the cause of action or one year after any legal stay is lifted.
SFLAction has been extremely active in South Carolina throughout the past several years, educating voters and engaging lawmakers:
- Introduced H. 3457, “Human Life Protection Act,” to protect Life at the moment of conception.
- SFLAction President Kristan Hawkins joined former South Carolina Lt. Gov. Ken Ard on “Wake Up Carolina” and Corey Allen on “Palmetto Talk Live” to discuss the “Human Life Protection Act,” emphasizing the urgent need for GOP leadership to act on the bill and calling out Speaker Smith and Rep. Newton for stalling life-saving protections for the preborn.
- SFLAction launched coordinated efforts in the Palmetto State urging Rep. Newton and Speaker Smith to bring the “Human Life Protection Act” to a floor vote.
- Former Planned Parenthood director and now pro-life advocate Abby Johnson, along with Hawkins, sent a letter to both Speaker Smith and Rep. Newton urging them to hold a vote for the “Human Life Protection Act.”
- Kristan Hawkins joined FITS News and ABC Columbia during a news conference, calling on Speaker Smith and Rep. Newton to pass the “Human Life Protection Act.”
- Students for Life of America Regional Coordinator for the Carolinas, Alicia Foreman, joined FITSNews for one of our Lobby Days.
- Kristan Hawkins held a townhall with Jason Rapert — Clock’s Ticking for Republicans in South Carolina to Act on Pro-Life Legislation.
- Kristan Hawkins wrote an op-ed with Frances Floresca for FITSNews — South Carolina Is Pro-Life, House GOP Leadership Isn’t.
SFLAction supported the pro-life vote for the “Abortion-Inducing Drugs Act” as part of the broader Make America Pro-Life Again Roadmap launched last November; a legal and legislative strategy to take down abortion at the state and federal level, built upon the Gonzales v. Carhart case.
