“Americans deserve better than drinking women’s abortions and babies deserve more dignity than being flushed down the toilet. Maine’s introduction of the ‘Clean Water For All Life Act’ represents cutting-edge innovation in pro-life policy, aimed at keeping Chemical Abortion Pill pollution out of our waterways,” said Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins. “During the COVID pandemic, the Biden-Harris Administration gave de facto permission for abortion water pollution as Big Abortion Pharma moved the business of abortion into people’s homes and schools.”

MEDIA NOTE: Students for Life Action (SFLAction) spearheaded 26 lobby days across the country at the beginning of 2025 state sessions and proudly applauds Maine as one of many states working on pro-life legislation this year.

AUGUSTA, ME (03-07-2025) – Students for Life Action (SFLAction) President Kristan Hawkins applauds Pro-Life Champion Maine State Representative Reagan Paul for leading the charge for Life by attacking Chemical Abortion Pill pollution in Maine. This week, Rep. Paul introduced LD 887, the Clean Water For All Act, that includes common-sense health and safety standards for women seeking abortions, will save lives, and prevent water pollution. This important legislation highlights the known risks of the deadly pills, for preborn babies as well as their mothers, and addresses Abortion Water Pollution, a growing problem in the United States.

The next steps for the Clean Water For All Life Act is to ensure that the Judiciary Committee Chairwoman Representative Amy Kuhn brings our bill up for a vote, meaning that this bill is one step closer to being placed on the Governor’s desk.

“Our innovative legislation will help protect Maine’s water supply by preventing dangerous Chemical Abortion Pills from contaminating our environment,” said the lead sponsor of the bill, Rep. Reagan Paul. “We must ensure clean, safe water for our communities and safeguard public health by stopping the spread of these harmful substances into our waterways.”

“Keeping Chemical Abortion Pills out of the waterways represents a new effort to address deadly Chemical Abortion pills that kill preborn babies as well as expose women to injury, infertility, and death. The pills empower sex abusers and result in Abortion Water Pollution, making this bill vital for the health of the citizens of Maine and of their families. We salute Rep. Paul and legislators in Maine who are fighting to put this version of a ‘Clean Water For All Act’ on the Governor’s desk,” said Hawkins.

Courageous legislative efforts to keep Abortion Water Pollution out of our waterways are getting attention in this legislative cycle, with Maine being one of the first states. Recently, Montana also introduced this novel legislation to protect citizens in their states and their environment from hazardous chemicals.

Exposing environmental concerns resulting from Chemical Abortion Pills is a battle that SFLAction and our sister organization, Students for Life of America (SFLA), have been fighting for quite some time:

  •  SFLAction submitted a letter to Congress, alongside more than forty other pro-life leaders, to demand the Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) conduct regular and comprehensive environmental testing of PFAs just like any other “forever chemical.”
  •  SFLAction submitted a legal analysisto the EPA with detailed reasons to track Chemical Abortion Pills.
  •  SFLAction filed an amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court for the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) v. Alliance for HippocraticMedicine.
  •  In multiple states, SFLActionhas lobbied to introduce and ensure passage of lawsthat would protect the environment from pollutants in Chemical Abortion Pills.
  • Additionally, we submitted five petitions to the FDA demanding they:
    • Add Red Bag Medical Waste requirements to reduce Chemical Abortion Pill pollution.
    • Restore high health and safety standards (known as REMS– Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies) to protect women’s lives.
    • Ensure that Endangered Species are protected from endocrine disrupters.
    • Comply with the Clean Water Act by requiring protection for water, especially recreational water.
    • And halt the relabeling of Chemical Abortion Pills.

Gen Z and Gen Y registered voters strongly support this type of legislation, as reported in SFLA and the Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement YouGov/SurveyUSA poll released in January, where we note that by margins of 9 in 10 or more, they embrace environmental protections and health & safety standards for the deadly pills.

Additionally, these drugs contain dangerous endocrine disruptors, which are making their way into America’s waterways through human remains, despite EPA warnings not to flush drugs, chemicals, and even goldfish. Hospitals dispose of placentas carefully as medical waste, and brick-and-mortar abortion vendors are supposed to follow state laws with human remains.

By introducing the Clean Water for All Life Act, Maine is setting the stage for other states to follow suit in the fight against abortion water pollution.
