“A favorite tool of abusers and human traffickers, Chemical Abortion Pills are a scourge on American women and their preborn children – and Oklahoma’s leaders have chosen to strengthen their pro-life protections by closing a dangerous drug trafficking gap,” said Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins. “With the passage of HB 3013, we can better protect the women and children of Oklahoma – and we hope the Senate will take up this critical legislation and do the same.”

OKLAHOMA CITY, O.K. (3-14-2024) – Students for Life Action (SFLAction) applauds the passage of HB 3013, introduced by State Reps. Denise Crosswhite Hader, Jim Olsen, and John Talley, which would ensure that individuals found knowingly delivering or possessing Chemical Abortion Pills with the intent to provide them to someone seeking an unlawful abortion could face felony charges, including fines of up to $100,000 or imprisonment for up to ten years. The bill passed with 77 in favor, 18 against, and six no votes.
“The mail distribution model of Chemical Abortion Pills circumvents Oklahoma’s pro-life laws and puts the full weight of the risk of abortion complications onto women, as the abortion pill pushers take their money and walk away,” said Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins. “Despite the dangers they pose to babies, women, and the environment, these Chemical Abortion Pills are still mailed from states where abortion is legal. We thank the Oklahoma legislature for taking this important first step towards passage and urge members of the Oklahoma Senate to follow suit and close this deadly loophole and prioritize the health and safety of women. We call upon the Senate to vote in favor of HB 3013.”

According to data from the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute, more than half of intentional abortions are committed with Chemical Abortion Pills. During the COVID crisis, the Biden Administration’s abuse of the FDA helped to set up No Test, Online Distribution of Chemical Abortion Pills, exposing women to injury, infertility, death, and abusers.
Data from the abortion industry’s own sources notes that these pills are responsible for causing four times the complications as surgical abortion. A National Institute of Health study found that the risk of death associated with Chemical Abortion Pills is also ten times higher.
In addition to supporting HB 3013 and numerous other Chemical Abortion Pill state and federal laws, SFLAction has tackled initiatives to raise awareness about the dangers of Chemical Abortion Pills on the environment. This included educational campaigns, op-eds, and submitting Citizen Petitions to the FDA calling for:
- Adding Red Bag Medical Waste requirements to reduce the pollution from Chemical Abortion Pills.
- Restoring high health and safety standards (known as REMS – Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies) to protect women’s lives.
- Completing studies and ensuring protections for endangered species; and now.
- Requiring Protections for Water, especially recreational water, in compliance with the Clean Water Act.
“Even if you support abortion, that’s not an argument for the No Test, Online Distribution of Chemical Abortion Pills that expose women to injury, infertility, death, and abusers, as well as creating potential environmental pollution,” said Hawkins.
