“For the second time, Students for Life Action is working to pass legislation vital for protecting babies in the womb as well as their mothers, as a new abortion drug cartel makes a profit from tragedy,” said Students for Life’s Kristan Hawkins. “Easy access to Chemical Abortion Pills makes all the wrong people happy: pill pushers and abusers, who use the pills against women without their knowledge or consent. This effort has some real momentum, and we will be calling for passage in the committee hearing on the way.”

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. (01-23-2025) – Students for Life Action (SFLAction) President Kristan Hawkins applauded Florida legislators for the introduction and referral into committee of the SFLAction-inspired “Anti-Chemical Abortion Pill Trafficking Act” (SB1374 in the Senate and HB0633 in the House). If signed into law, the measure would impose civil penalties on Chemical Abortion Pill vendors who prescribe and ship the deadly pills within and into Florida. This is SFLAction’s second anti-Chemical Abortion Pill bill in Florida. “Real innovation in the states means lives will be saved,” said Hawkins. “This bill puts a high cost on those predators who profit from death by abortion and then abandon women to whatever happens next.”

SFLAction is calling on Florida’s Health, Judiciary and Rules Committee to recommend the “Anti-Chemical Abortion Pill Trafficking Act” for an immediate floor vote to protect the women and preborn children of the Sunshine State.

Youth voters agree on the importance of legislation like the “Anti-Chemical Abortion Pill Trafficking Act.” In a new Students for Life’s Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement poll released and conducted by Survey USA, half of youth voters said they would support in-person dispensing requirements for Chemical Abortion Pills to protect women from abuse, with only 27% opposing in-person dispensing requirements, and 94% of youth voters said a federal review of Chemical Abortion Pill policy was important. By margins of more than 9 in 10, the Youth Vote also supported the reinstatement of health and safety standards that have been stripped away from Chemical Abortion Pills, leaving women exposed to injury, infertility, and death, and to abusers who use the pills against women without their knowledge or consent. Also at risk is the environment, from abortion water pollution flushed into the waterways.

If passed, the “Anti-Chemical Abortion Pill Trafficking Act” would:

  • Fathers of unborn children and family members of women hurt by abortionists (all defined as “family members”) can bring lawsuits up to $100,000 against abortion vendors.
  • Family members can take legal action whether the woman consented to the abortion or not.
  • The violation of Florida’s abortion law does not have to originate in Florida. This means that abortion vendors who send Chemical Abortion Pills into Florida in violation of Florida law are held liable, even if the vendor resides in a state that allows for abortion.
  • Coercion and attempted abortions in violation of Florida law qualify for lawsuits, along with completed abortions.
  • A two-year statute of limitation is attached to the protections.
  • A claw back provision protects family members from being counter-sued by out-of-state abortion supporters and vendors.

SFLAction has been extremely active in legislative sessions throughout the past several years, educating voters and engaging lawmakers. During the Spring 2025 legislative session in states across America, SFLAction:

  • Tracked and monitored over 1,100 abortion-related bills
  • Drove efforts on 25 pro-life and pro-abortion bills across 16 states
  • Introduced 20 SFLAction-inspired bills
  • Testified in committees in five states: Arkansas, Maine, Montana, Texas, and West Virginia
  • Visited offices of more than 100 state AND federal lawmakers
  • Equipped more than 6,000 student leaders to engage in visiting more than 100,000 homes in 27 states and urge voters to tell their lawmakers to support pro-life legislation
  • Engaged with hundreds of millions of constituents around the country:
  • Sent over 2,300,000+ personal text messages in support of pro-life bills
  • Made 750,000+ phone calls to pro-life constituents
  • Generated 20,000+ emails and 750,000+ calls from pro-life constituents to their legislators
  • Sent 150,000+ mailers in seven states

SFLAction supported the pro-life vote for the “Anti-Chemical Abortion Pill Trafficking Act” as part of the broader Make America Pro-Life Again Roadmap launched last November; a legal and legislative strategy to take down abortion at the state and federal level, built upon the Gonzales v. Carhart case.
