“West Virginia has the unique opportunity to protect all of its citizens from a form of prejudice so severe it can lead to a death sentence,” said Students for Life’s Kristan Hawkins.
WHEELING, WV (02-25-2025) – Students for Life Action (SFLAction) President Kristan Hawkins made the following statement about West Virginia’s current effort to strip away legal protections for some children in the womb. Though a bill was withdrawn from the WV State Senate, it proceeds in the State House. A native West Virginian, Hawkins said the effort to remove legal protections for children based on how they were conceived is an “inhumane act that profiles children based on things outside their control” and praised the efforts of West Virginia State Del. Lisa White, leading the fight to defend the preborn.
Hawkins observed: “A child’s worth comes from who they are as a unique creation and not from the events of how they came to be. Students for Life Action rejects prejudice against people based on age, sex, race, stage of development, parental income, perception of abilities, or the events of conception. We refuse to shame people based on their origin story and commend the leaders in West Virginia, like Delegate Lisa White, for standing up for children who deserve to be welcomed into the world for who they are. I’m blessed to know many people with stories like these, and they deserve our love and support.”
