Students for Life Action Salutes Six Pro-Life Candidates Who Pledged to Prioritize Protecting Life in Law & in Service in Kentucky

“We’re pleased to see many pro-life champions who came under fire from pro-abortion opponents re-elected last night, and we’re particularly excited about the victory of SFLAction alum and future champion, TJ Roberts who won his primary last night,” said SFLAction’s Chanel Prunier. “Despite the pro-abortion lobby’s best efforts to keep pro-life protectors out of the State House, they have failed – the voters have spoken, and we look forward to strengthening the pro-life laws of Kentucky.”

Frankfurt, KY (05-21-2024) Students for Life Action (SFLAction) celebrates the election of SIX pro-life leaders in Kentucky’s state House and Senate primary races. SFLAction VP of Political Affairs Chanel Prunier said, “Kentucky’s Governor has made his support for abortion well known, and the voters ignored him to send six pro-life champions to Frankfurt. The primary results mean that the pro-life coalition in Kentucky is only getting stronger, giving the Pro-Life Generation in the Bluegrass State a new chance to strengthen the state’s pro-life laws.”

Numerous successful candidates returned the Students for Life Action Candidate Survey and pledged to vote pro-life 100%, including:

Senate District 11 – Rep. Steve Rawlings

  • Incumbent with a strong pro-life record.

House District 45 – Thomas Jefferson

  • His primary opponent, incumbent Rep. Killian Timoney, cosponsored legislation to re-legalize some abortions.

House District 50 – Rep. Candy Massoroni

  • Incumbent with a strong pro-life record.

House District 60 – Rep. Marianne Proctor

  • Incumbent with a strong pro-life record.

House District 66 – TJ Roberts

  • A Students for Life of America alumni, whose opponent supports taxpayer funding of abortion and re-legalizing some abortion.

House District 69 – Rep. Steve Doan

  • Incumbent with a strong pro-life record.

Leading up to the election, SFLAction sent out 44,042 text messages, made 30,417 phone calls, distributed 4,645 pieces of direct mail, and knocked on 2,092 doors across eight targeted districts.

Before and after the unconstitutional Roe v. Wade decision was reversed in 2022, the fight for Life was underway in Kentucky, including:

  • In March 2022, the Supreme Court sided with state attorney general, Daniel Cameron, ensuring that he could do his job defending the pro-life laws in Kentucky since the Governor refused to do so.

  • In November 2022, Kentucky residents narrowly voted in favor of a ballot initiative that put abortion rights into the state constitution. Despite this outcome, SFLActionengaged voters and knocked on 1,831 doors, sent 19,974 personal text messages, and made 30,427 phone calls.

  • And in March 2024, SFLAction rallied against House Bill 711, filed by Republican State Rep. Ken Fleming, R-Louisville, and cosponsored by Reps. Gooch and Timoney, (introduced over a month later on the last day to file legislation) which would have created unnecessary exceptions that weaken pro-life protections.

SFLAction engaged in numerous other campaigns to promote and protect pro-life laws in the Bluegrass State, including:

  • Educating voters and lawmakers to stand against House Bill 711, which would’ve expanded abortion access in the State.
  • Supporting Republican efforts to pass House Bill 3, which would have protected preborn children and their mothers from deadly Chemical Abortion pills.

“Congratulations to all of the winners tonight,” said Prunier. “Kentucky women deserve more ‘choice’ than the barbarism of abortion, and we believe these new pro-life champions can deliver once they win in November.”
