The Reason We Fight Against Chemical Abortion

The scourge of Chemical Abortion Pills is one that Students for Life Action (SFLAction) has been fighting against for many years.

We’ve documented many sad instances when these drugs have caused death or misery, whether it was the Nevada woman who died because of complications from these drugs or the man who forced these drugs into his pregnant mistress.

Sadly, a new story from the Washington Times only reinforces why this fight is so necessary. According to the news:

“Elizabeth Gillette was six to seven weeks pregnant when she took the abortion pill and suffered complications: She went into labor and delivered the fetus in its amniotic sack surrounded by blood in a bathroom.

Shocked and upset, she flushed the fetus down the toilet. Ms. Gillette said she has post-traumatic stress disorder as a result.

She is asking the Supreme Court to step in and protect women who are not under medical supervision while taking the drug.”

Today, the Supreme Court heard arguments over the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) use and distribution of Chemical Abortion Pills: U.S. Food & Drug Administration v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine. Unfortunately these drugs are widespread in their use across the country, more than half of all intentional abortions in America are caused because of these pills, according to reporting from the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute.

And the FDA is largely to blame – the Biden Administration’s abuse of that institution helped to set up No Test, Online Distribution of Chemical Abortion Pills.

The death of preborn children or the horrible mental health trauma that follows it are just some of the consequences of Chemical Abortion Pills.

Other women who take these drugs are at risk of equally serious medical problems including injury, infertility, death, and exploitation by abusers. These pills are responsible for causing four times the complications as surgical abortion, and the National Institute of Health (NIH) notes that the risk of death associated with Chemical Abortion Pills is also ten times higher.

SFLAction has also tackled initiatives to raise awareness about the dangers of Chemical Abortion Pills on the environment, including submitting Citizen Petitions to the FDA, calling for:

  • Adding Red Bag Medical Waste requirements to reduce the pollution from Chemical Abortion Pills.
  • Restoring high health and safety standards (known as REMS – Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies) to protect women’s lives.
  • Completing studies and ensuring protections for endangered species; and now.
  • Requiring Protections for Water, especially recreational water, in compliance with the Clean Water Act.

Hopefully, today’s Supreme Court hearing leaned towards justice for women like Elizabeth and those who have suffered or lost because of these pills. But even if not, we will keep fighting to ensure that these pills are never used again.
