The Year the Tide Turned For Preborn Kansans with SFLAction’s Help

A new era for Kansas began in early March 2023 when Students For Life Action’s (SFLAction) Protection At Conception bill (SB 286) was introduced into the Kansas legislature.

Once passed, SB 286 will entirely prohibit abortions in Kansas with the exception if a mother’s life was at risk in a medical emergency. This bill comes at a very needed time as the number of abortions in Kansas went up from more than 7,000 in 2021 to more than 12,000 in 2022. It will protect thousands of preborn Kansans from abortion, restoring their future and bringing hope to the heartland of America.

Cheyenne Vandeventer, a SFLAction legislative intern, presented the bill to be introduced before the Kansas Senate Federal and State Affairs Committee. The bill was successfully introduced without objection.

Over the 2023 Kansas legislative session, Vandeventer and the SFLAction team worked hard to advance SB 286 out of committee. We mobilized more than a thousand pro-life Kansans to email legislators, led lobby days and door knocking days, and spoke with key legislators to encourage them to advance SB 286.

Sadly, Senator Thompson, the chairman of the Kansas Senate Federal and State Committee refused to schedule a hearing to advance the bill. SFLAction will hold self-proclaimed pro-life politicians in Kansas accountable for protecting the preborn. There is no other greater duty as a Kansas legislator than to protect the most vulnerable Kansans — preborn babies — and their right to life.

SFLAction is inspiring and activating the next generation to tirelessly labor on behalf of preborn babies and ending abortion. It’s not going unnoticed at the Kansas Capitol. Seeing the Pro-Life Generation excited about making a lasting, generational difference in Kansas is contagious, and it inspires others to want to join the fight!

This fall, Vandeventer will spread awareness about SB 286 to activate pro-life Kansans across the state to contact key legislators so that when the legislative session starts in January 2024, the bill can advance right away.

The grassroots movement that SFLAction is building is critical in the fight to pass SB 286. And we want you to be a part of it!

Help advance SB 286 by emailing key legislators today. There’s no time to lose. For preborn babies, every moment matters. Legislators need to hear from us today.

If you want to join the fight to protect preborn Kansans and pass SB 286, email Cheyenne Vandeventer at [email protected]. We need volunteers to email, call, and meet with legislators, and to encourage other Kansans to do the same!
