As the Pro-Life Generation (PLG) basks in the sweet victory of defunding Planned Parenthood and all abortion vendors through the “Big, Beautiful” Budget Bill, where would we be without our incredible students? They lobbied, educated, and stood up for the most historical defunding legislation to date!

During Students for Life of America’s (SFLA) National Celebrate Life Weekend, a week before the bill passed, we visited several Senate offices to urge them to support defunding Planned Parenthood and all abortion vendors by voting “yes” on the bill.

Students for Life Action (SFLAction) Government Affairs Coordinator Savanna Deretich, who led the student lobby day, praised their efforts, saying, “Their boldness and bravery to go to these offices and stand up for Life at such a pivotal moment in history blows me away. Some of these students were just high schoolers, but it just goes to show that passion inspires bravery and action.”

More than 20 students visited the following offices, including Senate Majority Leader John Thune’s office to deliver petitions:

  • Shelley Capito – WV
  • Rand Paul – KY
  • Lisa Murkowski – AK
  • Susan Collins – ME
  • Jim Justice – WV
  • Todd Young – IN
  • Ron Johnson – WI
  • Mitch McConnell – KY
  • Mike Lee – UT
  • John Cornyn – TX
  • Josh Hawley – MO
  • Rick Scott – FL
  • Dan Sullivan – AK
  • Thom Tillis – NC

While the lobby day was a success, we felt the initial disappointment of the parliamentarian reducing the defunding period from ten years to one. Still, we’re excited and proud of all the work our students have done and the thousands of preborn lives that will be saved because of taking away taxpayer dollars. And yes, we’re ready to do it again next year!
