Students for Life Action Applauds Kansas Legislature’s Move to Provide Mothers Real, Pro-Life Support through Pregnancy Care Centers; Calls on Governor to Sign
“We build a Culture of Life one act at time, and, in this bill, Gov. Laura Kelly can support mothers and babies by protecting the pregnancy care centers, which provide resources for women who choose Life,” said Students for Life’s Kristan Hawkins. “Protecting the centers that provide support and resources for mothers and their children promotes a culture of Life and flourishing for Kansas citizens.”

TOPEKA, KAN. (03-23-2026) — Students for Life Action (SFLAction) President Kristan Hawkins celebrated the passage of the SFLAction-championed “Pregnancy Center Autonomy and Rights of Expression Act” (HB2635) in the Kansas Senate, advancing by a vote of 31-9. The bill has now passed in both chambers and heads to Gov. Laura Kelly’s desk for signature. If signed into law, Kansas would protect the Pregnancy Resource Centers that offer mothers the resources and support they need to confidently choose Life.
“You get more of what you pay for; less of what you don’t. By investing in Pregnancy Care Centers, the next generation in Kansas will be welcomed,” said Hawkins. “This kind of investment is long overdue, especially when you consider the billions of dollars lost in support to Planned Parenthood and Big Abortion.”
The “Pregnancy Center Autonomy and Rights of Expression Act” expands protections for pregnancy care centers by:
- Prohibiting state and local agencies from requiring pregnancy centers to perform abortions, provide abortion-inducing drugs, or refer patients for these services.
- Restricting government from forcing these centers to post signs or distribute materials that promote abortion or provide information on how to obtain one.
- Protecting centers’ ability to make hiring decisions based on whether an employee aligns with the center’s “pro-life” mission.
- Creating a private cause of action, meaning a pregnancy center can sue for damages and attorney fees if they feel a government entity has violated these protections.
This January, Students for Life’s Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement released results from their annual youth vote poll alongside Survey USA. The poll found that the Youth Vote shifts significantly in support of abortion limits when mothers, children, and families receive increased support from state and federal government. With a 7-point change in favor of Life, 34% were more willing to accept abortion limits with support, which pregnancy care centers, protected by this legislation, provide.
And according to a February Cygnal poll, Republican voters want action on pro-life legislation, too, with 32% stating they are less likely to vote in the upcoming midterms if they feel the GOP is not addressing abortion.
SFLAction is encouraging Kansans to join us in calling on Gov. Laura Kelly to sign the “Pregnancy Center Autonomy and Rights of Expression Act” into law to support the mothers and children of Kansas.
