COUNTDOWN TO DEFUNDING PLANNED PARENTHOOD:

District & Federal Lobby Days Planned as the Countdown to Defunding Planned Parenthood Continues

When President Trump signed the Big, Beautiful Bill on July 4, 2025, that only redirected funds from abortionists to full-service healthcare providers for ONE YEAR, we said we would be back. Promises made; promises kept,” said Students for Life’s Kristan Hawkins. “Unless Congress acts in another reconciliation bill or the Trump Administration completes debarment, hundreds of millions of tax dollars will start to flow into abortion industry pockets this year. Pro-Life voters will be watching to see whether their investment in the GOP was worth it.”

MEDIA ADVISORY: SAVE THE DATE

National “Countdown to Defunding Planned Parenthood” Webcast set for May 12

WASHINGTON D.C. (04-30-2026) — A countdown to defunding Planned Parenthood is underway as a result of the GOP decision to only redirect healthcare dollars from abortion businesses to full-service healthcare practices for one year, starting last July when President Trump signed a reconciliation bill.

Students for Life Action (SFLAction)President Kristan Hawkins noted at the time that it would mean the issue of abortion funding would be raised again in 2026, to keep midterm voters informed about how well the GOP addresses the misuse of Medicaid spending at abortion vendor businesses, like Planned Parenthood.

Hawkins noted: “This was not one-and-done. SFLAction will launch lobby days in member districts as well as in Washington D.C. with the urgent message that it’s up to them to finish what they started and cut Planned Parenthood & Big Abortion out of our healthcare spending.”

The effort is all more vital as a heroic effort, championed by Sen. Josh Hawley, to amend a current reconciliation bill to include such cuts failed in the U.S. Senate.

SFLAction will score Congressional members on whether they meet the July 4th deadline and ensure that more tax dollars are not wasted at locations committed to sterilizing, wrong-sex experimental treatments and death by abortion.

Educational efforts will be engaged on the issue, making it important to note that 32% of GOP voters say they are less likely to vote in the upcoming midterms if they perceive the GOP to have abandoned the issue of abortion, according to a February Cygnal poll. This means nearly a third of the GOP’s base puts the abortion issue at or near the top of their priorities when it comes to voting, spelling potential disaster for the GOP if they don’t act to protect Life.

In a score letter to Members of Congress, Hawkins noted: “. . . Congress has every legal and moral right to decide with whom to do business. Though Planned Parenthood sued to stop the initial cuts, they dropped their legal efforts after losses. The state of South Carolina in Medina v. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic also won by a vote of 6-3, ensuring that states have the right to determine whether Planned Parenthood can be ejected from state programs.

“It has been a cruel and wasteful abuse of power to insist that ending life deserves equal billing with life-saving care. Voters will be watching to see whether the GOP acts on the vibrant, life-affirming agenda that we sent them to Washington D.C. to complete.”

The letter details that it’s up to Congress to use reconciliation as well as support any means necessary to address abortion funding, including demanding that the Trump Administration debar Planned Parenthood after thorough investigation.

Another way to address the misuse of federal funds with Planned Parenthood is to complete a debarment investigation, which is like a job review of a federal vendor after complaints. The vendor can be found to be unqualified to get any federal funds.

To remind Members of Congress of the pro-life commitment to seeing the one-year problem fixed with a new reconciliation bill or debarment push, a federal lobby day will take place mid-May.

The week of April 27th for the U.S. House:

  • Rep. Ron Estes, Wichita, KS
  • Rep. Brett Guthrie, Bowling Green, KY
  • Rep. John James, Warren, MI
  • Rep. Richard Hudson, Fayetteville, NC
  • Rep. Bob Latta, Findlay, OH
  • Rep. Lloyd Smucker, Lancaster, PA
