Over the past few years, the Republican Party has widely stepped back from addressing the issue of abortion. Viewing standing up for Life as unpopular, even pro-life politicians have been hesitant for fear of how opposing abortion could impact them at the ballot box.
This fear couldn’t be more unsubstantiated. Two new polls prove that the vast majority of voters want to see their politicians act to defend Life — or they may withhold their vote.
YouGov released a poll earlier this week in partnership with Economist gauging Americans’ positions on abortion by political party, and the results proved that our country is not the abortion-loving army the abortion lobby wants you to believe.
Of those polled, 95% of Republicans said that there should be at least some restrictions on abortion. Among Independents, 64% wanted restrictions.
Shockingly, even Democrats showed that they are not for the abortion-up-to-infanticide agenda of the modern Democratic Party. In fact, 58% of Democrat respondents to the YouGov poll wanted at least some restrictions on abortion.
These numbers were backed up by a Gallup poll released the very next day, which reported similar results. Of Republicans, 92% said they want restrictions on abortion, as did 63% of Independents and 44% of Democrats.
Additionally, Students for Life of America’s Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement, in conjunction with SurveyUSA, released a January 2026 poll that showed the same thing among Gen Z and Millennial voters: nearly 7 in 10 youth voters want laws limiting abortion.
Students for Life Action’s (SFLAction) success with primary voters is a testament to the accuracy of these polls. SFLAction boasts a 70% election win rate for its backed candidates, showing that when GOP voters know which primary candidate backs pro-life policies, they will overwhelmingly choose the one who stands for unborn babies.
This polling demonstrates that not only is pro-life action a winner in primaries but could very well be a smart move in the general elections. If Independents and Democrats realize the abortion extremism of the modern Democratic party, there is a high chance members of both groups may choose to vote Red.
Meanwhile, Cygnal polling showed that 32% of Republican voters would have “decreased enthusiasm” to vote in the midterms if they didn’t see GOP leaders standing up for Life. This is an issue the Right cannot continue to ignore. Otherwise, the party of infanticide may win and cause more harm than we can imagine.
