“Our peer-reviewed water study proved that the first of two drugs used for chemical abortions — mifepristone — pollutes our water where tested,” said Students for Life Action (SFLAction) President Kristan Hawkins. “Now, it’s time for Congress to stand up for the safety of preborn children, all Americans, our environment, and even endangered species by keeping our water clean through SFLAction’s ‘Clean Water for All Life Act.’”

WASHINGTON, D.C. (08-07-2026) — Students for Life Action (SFLAction) President Kristan Hawkins reminded members of the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate that SFLAction’s “Clean Water for All Life Act” (H.R. 7983) represents an historic opportunity to protect all Life from abortion water pollution. Hawkins called for more Members in the U.S. House and Senate to stand with those who don’t want to drink other people’s abortions.
Introduced by Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL), the “Clean Water for All Life Act” requires the use of biohazard “catch kits” to dispose of blood, placenta tissue, waste, and human remains from a chemical abortion instead of flushing it into our waterways, as the industry currently instructs. If passed, the bill would make chemical abortion pill vendors responsible for any abortion-related water pollution. The measure is being recirculated considering a newly released, first-in-the-nation, peer-reviewed study found mifepristone in drinking water.

More than 50 tons of chemically tainted blood, placenta tissue, and human remains are flushed into our waterways, according to the Planned Parenthood-founded Guttmacher Institute’s calculations of the number of death-by-abortion-pill in the U.S., creating the potential for an environmental crisis.
“It is standard practice for medical waste to be collected and disposed of with biohazard bags in every other context,” said Hawkins. “While there is nothing about abortion that supports anyone’s health, the medical establishment that claims it does won’t hold abortion to the same medical safety standards at the expense of the health of all who drink America’s water.”
The bill’s common-sense standards have already garnered 18 co-sponsors, including Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL), who introduced SFLAction’s “Bereaved Parents Rights Act” earlier this year.
SFLAction has been working hard to bring attention to abortion water pollution. Along with a livestreamed press conference earlier this year, our work has included submitting several citizens’ petitions, sending letters to Congress and the EPA, and working to get mifepristone added to the EPA’s Drinking Water Contaminant Candidate List.
At SFLAction, we believe in saving all lives from the dangerous effects of abortion, starting with preborn children. With our peer-reviewed water study proving mifepristone is in our drinking water, it has never been more important that we do all we can to prevent the harmful effects that abortion water pollution could have on our health and fertility, not to mention on our environment and endangered species.
