Students for Life Action’s “Democrats Love Late-Term Abortion” campaign continues across Texas as the Pro-Life Generation challenges Talarico’s abortion advocacy and his attempts to use Christianity to defend abortion.
As radical pro-abortion Democrat U.S. Senate nominee James Talarico appeared at CNN and Jubilee Media’s October 14 town hall in Dallas, Texas, Students for Life of America (SFLA) activists delivered a different message outside the event: Christianity cannot be used to justify the killing of preborn children.
Our demonstration was the latest in Students for Life Action’s (SFLAction) ongoing “Democrats Love Late-Term Abortion” campaign. The campaign exposes candidates’ egregious pro-abortion positions and legislative records ahead of November’s elections.
For one Christian student leader participating in the protest, the issue was deeply personal.
“James Talarico blatantly misuses Bible passages to support his pro-abortion agenda. As a Christian, I could not stand this man misleading the public on the meaning of Mary’s Fiat as a justification for abortion,” the student leader explained.
The student’s frustration stems from Talarico’s repeated attempts to reconcile Christianity with his support for abortion, particularly his interpretation of the Annunciation, when the Virgin Mary submitted to God’s will.
The student leader warned that Talarico’s religious messaging makes him particularly dangerous to Christian voters.
“Talarico is a worse threat to Texas than any pro-abortion non-Christian running for Senate because he frequently uses his status as a ‘Christian pastor’ to guilt-trip Christians into supporting his liberal agenda.”
The student also invoked Acts 20:29-30, comparing Talarico’s interpretation of Scripture to the biblical warning about false teachers who emerge from within the Christian community.
Talarico’s Abortion Record Tells a Different Story
While Talarico frequently invokes his Christian faith, his political record reveals a consistent commitment to pro-abortion policies.
As previously documented by SFLAction, Talarico supports codifying Roe v. Wade in federal law and has repeatedly opposed abortion restrictions in the Texas Legislature. We argue that his position would leave preborn children without meaningful federal protection throughout pregnancy.
His pro-abortion advocacy extends beyond legislative votes.
In 2022, Talarico urged the Biden Administration to consider using federal lands to facilitate abortion access in states with pro-life protections and sought federal action against restrictions on chemical abortion pills.
Meanwhile, Talarico has declared that the Bible is “silent on abortion,” even as he uses biblical narratives to support pro-abortion policies.
For pro-life Christians, that contradiction is precisely why his political and theological arguments deserve scrutiny.
From Church Pews to College Campuses to CNN
The Dallas protest was not an isolated demonstration.
On September 13, SFLA launched a nationwide church-flyering campaign outside Talarico’s longtime church, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Austin.
Students distributed educational materials at approximately seven Austin-area churches, launching an initiative designed to reach more than 100 churches and educate Christian voters about candidates who use Scripture to defend abortion.
Just three days later, SFLAction joined Baylor University’s Bears for Life students and Waco community members to protest Talarico’s September 16 campaign appearance.
After university police restricted their demonstration, students moved to a public sidewalk. Those who attended the campaign event reported that Talarico didn’t hold a question-and-answer session, leaving students without an opportunity to challenge his positions directly.
Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America, has also challenged Talarico’s religious and political arguments in an October op-ed for The Daily Wire, highlighting his pro-abortion views and urging Christian voters to examine his record rather than his rhetoric.
The Pro-Life Generation Isn’t Backing Down
From Austin churches to Baylor University to a nationally televised town hall in Dallas, SFLA’s message remains consistent: Candidates cannot expect their abortion records to escape scrutiny simply because they invoke Christianity.
For our student leader who stood outside Talarico’s town hall, showing up was about defending both preborn children and the Christian faith.
“I believe that Texas is pro-life, which means we just have to show up and show Talarico that he doesn’t represent that, and hopefully, he will have enough integrity to accept that fact (and his defeat) gracefully.”
With Election Day approaching, the Pro-Life Generation intends to keep the fight to end abortion at the forefront of the conversation and ensure Texas voters know exactly where Talarico stands.
