As midterms draw nearer every day, states are pushing to redraw their districts in support of their party in power. Now, the courts are weighing in with extremely influential decisions that could have major, longstanding impacts on the pro-life movement.
Virginia’s Supreme Court found that state Democrats violated procedural requirements to implement their new map. As such, the court struck down the map, which would have changed the commonwealth from a 6-5 to a 10-1 Democrat majority state.
Now, the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that districts cannot be drawn based on race with the intent to create minority-heavy districts without evidence of present discrimination. This ruling could result in changes to district lines in Louisiana, Alabama, South Carolina, and Georgia that would result in fewer Democrat seats.
The Democrat Party has not been silent about its official pro-abortion platform. As such, these redistricting shake-ups could have a major impact on the pro-life movement, determining whether pro-life voters’ voices will be silenced by Democrats or protected by pro-life Republicans and who will emerge in power as a result.
