OMAHA, N.E. (05-14-2024) Students for Life Action (SFLAction) celebrates the primary wins of TWO new pro-life leaders in Nebraska after tonight’s State Senate primary races. SFLAction Vice President of Political Affairs Chanel Prunier said, “Nebraska is a major battleground for Students for Life Action in our fight on behalf of the preborn lives, and in this race we are working to defeat weak, pro-abortion Republicans like Senator Merv Riepe. We’re grateful to see these Students for Life Action supported pro-life champions advance to the general election.  Nebraska voters made it clear that they will not tolerate candidates who turn their backs on the preborn and ignore the human rights issue of our day.”

Numerous successful candidates returned the survey and pledged to vote pro-life, including in the following races where SFLAction engaged:

  • Lana Peister – District 37
  • Ethan Clark – District 41

SFLAction has been involved in Nebraska for the last several years, engaging and educating lawmakers and voters on numerous key legislative initiatives:

  • In February 2024, SFLAction students testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee at the Nebraska Statehouse, calling on committee members to vote against, introduced by Republican Senator Merv Riepe (one of “Biden’s Favorite Republicans”). The law would’ve allowed abortions beyond the state’s 12-week limits in cases of fatal fetal anomalies and remove criminal penalties for doctors who perform an abortion outside of “the exceptions for rape, incest and to save the life of the mother.”

  • In January 2024, SFLAction engaged with lawmakers during a lobby day at the State capital, meeting with numerous lawmakers and legislative staff to discuss stronger and more comprehensive pro-life laws.

  • SFLAction ran a billboard campaign in November 2023 against Nebraska Senator Merv Riepe for his vote that derailed the Heartbeat law, after a busy legislative battle in the spring of 2023 to pass the bill.

Leading up to the election, SFLAction sent over 11,500 text messages, made over 11,300 phone calls, sent over 11,300 pieces of direct mail, and knocked on 626 doors.

“We are ready to hit the ground running to engage further in Nebraska’s general elections, and to support and advocate for pro-life legislation taken up by the lawmakers in Nebraska,” said Prunier.
