“Chemical Abortion Pills have long been a lethal but legal scourge in the abortion business – and make no mistake it’s always been about the money to the pro-abortion industry, not the mothers,” said SFLAction Vice President of Political Affairs Chanel Prunier.

BATON ROUGE, LA (05-23-2024) Students for Life Action (SFLAction) celebrates the passage of The Catherine and Josephine Herring Act SB276, introduced by Sen. Thomas Pressly. When signed into law, the bill would classify Chemical Abortion Pills as a class IV-controlled substance and create penalties for those who give women Chemical Abortion Pills without their knowledge or consent.

SFLAction Vice President of Political Affairs Chanel Prunier said “Today’s passage of SB 276 will ensure that these dangerous drugs cannot be dispersed or distributed in the reckless manner they long have been. The law will also protect women from being drugged into abortion against their will, an unconscionable act of violence that far too many pro-abortion Democrats seem indifferent towards.”

Chemical Abortion Pills make up more than six in10 abortions in America, according to data from the pro-abortion Alan Guttmacher Institute. This is partly due to the Biden Administration’s abuse of the Federal Drug Administration (FDA), setting up No Test, Online Distribution of Chemical Abortion Pills. As a result, countless women have been exposed to injury, infertility, death, and abusers, as well as creating potential environmental harms.

The pills cause four times the complications as surgical abortion, with a risk of death that is ten times higher, according to a National Institute of Health Study (NIH). The FDAreports numerous side effects. Between 5-7%of women who take Chemical Abortion Pills will need a follow-up surgery to end the pregnancy. And an Australian study noted that up to 8% of women who took the pills in that country ended up in an emergency room. Similar math is even reportedby the abortion industry.

Some young women have died as even the FDA reports, and a lawsuit has been filed in Nevada because the Chemical Abortion Pills sold by a Planned Parenthood abortion vendor reportedly contributed to a young woman’s death.

In another instance that was recently in the headlines, a Texas man slipped Chemical Abortion Pills into his wife’s drink, to cause her to have an abortion, only got 180 days (about 6 months) in prison.

“We will continue to fight back against the pro-abortion extremism being pushed in every state legislature and Congress by the Democrats, Planned Parenthood, and their allies in the corporate abortion industry,” said Prunier. “What’s happened in Louisiana is a model that all states can and should follow, and Students for Life Action will be sharing this legislation with our allies and seeking to introduce bills like it across the nation.”

SFLAction remains active in Louisiana, supporting not just SB276, but testifying before the Louisiana State Legislature on proposed laws that would improve adoption access and awareness (SB312) and Medicare reimbursements (SB190).
