“Louisiana’s Legislators, with three simple laws, could dramatically improve the preborn protections in the state,” said SFLAction’s Kristi Hamrick. “From Chemical Abortion Pill restrictions, to improved adoption awareness, to better Medicare reimbursement, this slate of pro-mother and pro-baby laws demand our attention, and a YES vote from Louisiana’s leaders.”

Baton Rouge, L.A. (05-14-2024) – Students for Life Action (SFLAction) will testify before the Louisiana State Legislature today on proposed laws that would improve adoption and expand Medicare reimbursement in the state. Delia Tuttlebee, a student at Mississippi College, Louisiana native, and Students for Life of America (SFLA) intern will speak on behalf of the organization.
SFLAction Vice President of Media & Policy Kristi Hamrick said, “Whether it’s better financial reimbursement for medical costs or easier access to adoption resources, the women of Louisiana deserve better choices than just more abortion. This bill creates an essential service to increase the knowledge and accessibility of infant adoption, a life-affirming, and lifesaving option for Louisiana families.”
SFLAction to speak in favor of, SB190 and The Adoption Awareness Act, SB312, would:
The Adoption Awareness Act, SB312
- Mandate that the Louisiana Department of Health and the Department of Children and Family Services must prominently display a link to the La.gov website or any successor state agency website that promotes adoption awareness and provides adoption resource information, ensuring easy access to adoption information through the departments’ websites.
- Increase Medicaid reimbursement rates for physicians in Louisiana to match one hundred percent of Medicare rates.
- It specified priorities for various medical services and outlined a plan for implementation by the Louisiana Department of Health, with submission deadlines to legislative committees.
Additionally, the State Legislature is considering an amendment to SB276 that would classify the Chemical Abortion drugs mifepristone and misoprostol as “controlled dangerous substances,” according to the Washington Post. The legislation would ensure that anyone giving a pregnant woman Chemical Abortion Pills without their consent would be charged with a crime: “coerced criminal abortion.”
During the COVID crisis, the Biden Administration abused their control of the FDA to set up No Test, Online Distribution of Chemical Abortion Pills that expose women to injury, infertility, death, and abusers, as well as creating potential environmental harms. As a consequence, Chemical Abortion Pills are used for more than 60% of all abortions in the United States
Some young women have died, as even the FDA reports, and a lawsuit has been filed in Nevada because the Chemical Abortion Pills sold by a Planned Parenthood abortion vendor reportedly contributed to a young woman’s death.
“The Biden Administration may not care about what happens to women, girls, the preborn, and the environment, but Louisiana legislators show their concern for those exposed to the drugs in a new effort to stop the deadly distribution by coercion,” said Hamrick. “Yet, even for women who take these drugs willingly they pose an unbelievable danger as well as risk harms to the environment as chemically tainted blood, placenta tissue, and human remains are flushed into our waterways. If you support abortion, that’s not a reason to support reckless distribution of deadly pills.”
