“SB 171, a bill designed by Students for Life Action, represents a major effort to protect the safety of preborn lives and mothers by punishing Chemical Abortion pill pushers in Indiana. We are calling upon pro-life legislators to pass this groundbreaking legislation,” said Students for Life Action Vice President of Political Affairs Chanel Jacobs. “We want to thank Sen. Mike Young for bringing this bill forward. By holding accountable those who prescribe and send Chemical Abortion Pills to Hoosiers, we send a clear message: endangering preborn babies and their mothers for a quick buck is unacceptable, and make no mistake, we will ask and expect pro-life legislators to support this legislation.”

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA (01-13-2025) – Pro-life champion and Indiana Sen. Mike Young introduced Students for Life Action (SFLAction) inspired and created legislation, SB 171, our Chemical Abortion Prevention Act, to the Indiana Senate. After a successful lobby day on Wednesday, Jan. 8, SFLAction staff and students engaged lawmakers in support of this anti-Chemical Abortion Pill trafficking legislation that would prohibit being engaged in pill pushing in violation of Indiana law.
“The abortion industry reports that Chemical Abortion Pills now make up more than six in 10 abortions, but without a National Abortion Reporting Law, that’s hard to prove. We believe it’s higher,” said SFLAction Vice President of Political Affairs Chanel Jacobs. “It’s in part thanks to the abuse of on-line networks that facilitate pill pushers across the country without any regard for pro-life protections in the law. The preborn babies and mothers of Indiana deserve so much more than the barbarism and reckless distribution of Chemical Abortion Pills. We thank Sen. Young for introducing this bill and call upon his colleagues to take it up for swift passage immediately,”
If signed into law, trafficking Chemical Abortion Pills via prescription and sending into state would be a Class A misdemeanor with a Level 6 felony for subsequent offenses. This would make Chemical Abortion Pill pushers think twice about sending these deadly drugs to Indiana where abortion is outlawed after 10 weeks except in cases of rape and incest or for a diagnosis of fetal abnormalities.
SFLAction’s push to introduce and pass SB 171 is part of our larger Make America Pro-Life Again Roadmap. Launched last November, this legislative package built upon the Gonzales v. Carhart case will help take down abortion at the state and federal level.

Chemical Abortion Pills prevalence across the country has grown, thanks to their widespread use and distribution through the mail and websites. Chemical Abortion Pills are often mailed into states protecting life from states where abortion is still legal, circumventing a state’s strong pro-life laws.
According to our more recent YouGov poll, more than nine in 10 millennials and Gen Z voters rejected the Biden-Harris Administration’s Federal Drug Administration (FDA) policy. This FDA policy allows the online distribution of Chemical Abortion Pills, eliminating health and safety standards protecting women’s lives and fertility.
This is why SFLAction tackled initiatives to raise awareness about the dangers of Chemical Abortion Pills on the environment, in addition to introducing legislation like Oklahoma’s HB 3013, and supporting Missouri’s HB 735, both of which are designed to reinforce existing laws and create new one to prevent the distribution and trafficking of these lethal drugs.
SFLAction has been extremely active in Indiana throughout the past several years, educating voters and engaging lawmakers, and helping to introduce legislation (SB 217), a Chemical Abortion Prevention Act, which would end the distribution, sale, and manufacture of dangerous Chemical Abortion Pills that can cause injury, infertility, and death to mothers.
